Then she meets Asher Morgan. He’s gorgeous, mysterious, and is the only person Ember can't sense death from. So when he pushes into her life, she doesn’t mind.

Ember is the first book in a new young adult paranormal series that follows Ember - our 17-year-old heroine who has the ability to see when people will die when she touches them. Due to her odd gift, Ember is an outcast at school with her only friend Raven to keep her secrets. One night in the graveyard, Ember meets Asher Morgan - a mysterious and gorgeous guy - but Ember can't see his death. Suddenly, strange deaths are happening all over town and Ember starts to wonder who's really behind them and why she can't sense death around Asher. Could he have something to do with the deaths?

I found the concept of this book very intriguing and unique. I love the Gothic feel to the book with Ember being able to see someone's death when she touches them. The idea behind the series is fresh and breathes new air into the paranormal YA genre. The characters are all very realistic and likable, especially Ember and her best friend Raven. They all have their issues and problems, but are easy to identify with and root for throughout the novel. The writing is very well done and the story flows effortlessly which made this a book I couldn't put down. There's great mystery and adventure mixed into the story, along with some romance - which I thought only added depth to the plot. The romantic aspect of the book isn't overly mushy or corny, which I thought was a perfect fit for the book. Overall, I really enjoyed this novel and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the next installment. I highly recommend this book for fans of paranormal and YA fiction.

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jessica Sorensen, lives with her husband and three kids in the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she's not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.
