Book Description:

With $3 million for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art on the line, curator Eve Carwyn hardly has time to focus on the state of her love life. Struggling to escape the clutches of a creepy ex and looking to add some adventure to her personal life, Eve is off on a much needed escape, and a business trip to Boston. But before she goes, her pack of dedicated girlfriends plan a send-off party that includes mind-bending kisses from not one, but two, sensational -- yet anonymous – partners. Will a chance encounter and a searing kiss somehow end in a love match? Will her career take off or lie in ruins when the grant results are in? Join Eve on her whirlwind journey through intrigue and ingenuity, terror and true love. Once the passion fishing starts, her life will never be the same.

Passion Fish is one part romance and one part heart pounding thriller. An innocent game of sexy distraction ignites a spark of love and a dangerous obsession in this exciting debut novel from Alison Oburia and Jessica McQuinn. Oburia and McQuinn offer an intriguing, suspenseful spin on the games people play when it comes to love, and the surprising lengths to which they’ll go to earn it... and to keep it.

“That was subtle.”
Will couldn’t tell yet if Eve’s sarcasm was biting or coy. Then he saw her face—the confusion in her eyes. It hurt him that he had been the one to put that look there.
“So, let me get this straight,” Eve started. Will thought it was a good sign that she was still talking to him. “You’re Camille Townsend’s son. You’re the owner of Townsend Industries, and you were likely a key decision-maker on the grant committee. Do I have that all right?” She tilted her head as she looked at him, still not even a hint of a smile.
She was angry. Will knew her anger was justified.
“What did you know about me—or even figure out about me before I stood up to speak this evening?” Will challenged her. He wanted to make her see that he was still the same Will Prentiss she had laughed and talked with earlier in the week.
“I’m not entirely sure. I didn’t think you were deceptive or evasive, but now…”
“I thought you had me all figured out the other night at dinner.” Eve looked at him, her eyebrows drawn together in confusion. “When we talked about hating the formality of these functions—of being ‘Mr. Prentiss’ instead of just some guy—I really thought you had me pegged.”
“But you are ‘Mr. Prentiss’ in these circles.”
“Doesn’t make me like it any better. I prefer to get to know people, and have people get to know me, without associating me with money or success or how I look. That’s all Jeannette ever saw in me. Look at her over there!” Will gestured to the dance floor where Jeannette was now dancing slowly—and seductively—with the man Will had just introduced her to. He was still finding new ways to look down her dress, and she was letting him.
“She’ll act like she’s in love with me one minute and then tease some shallow rich guy into her bed the next. You can be sure that guy is getting some tonight! That was one thing I was very glad never happened between us—not that she didn’t scheme to try.”
“So you and she haven’t been together for six months, and you aren’t getting ready to go ring shopping?” Eve finally laughed as she smiled up at him.
Her comments confirmed Will’s suspicions about what Jeannette and Eve had discussed in the ladies’ room. “Uh, definitely not.”
“Mr. Prentiss?” Eve’s smile grew and the sparkle returned to her eyes.
“Yes, Ms. Carwyn?”
“Do you think it would be acceptable for the president of Townsend Industries to dance with the winner of the grant? Strictly business, of course.”
“Yes, and no.” Will made a point to look into her eyes, wanting her to see how attracted he was to her. “Yes, I think that would be acceptable, but no, I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to keep things strictly business.”

Character Bio:

Image
Will Prentiss is the only son of a famous clothing designer. He’s a self-made millionaire in his own right as an inventor. He established a company and foundation under his mother’s maiden name, Townsend, and provides multi-million dollar grants to museums yearly. He lives in Boston, where he’s known as quite the bachelor that no woman can catch. He’s in his early thirties.

1. What is your ideal woman like?
I’ll admit I am attracted to beautiful, successful women. My ideal woman needs to be both as well as one who can keep me guessing. I like a challenge; I like working to get a woman’s attention and
affection. A woman too easy to win usually isn’t worth winning after all.

2. What do you like the least about yourself?
Sometimes I have to “put on airs” when trying to raise money for the Townsend Industries Foundation. It’s so not me, but if laughing at bad jokes made by Donald Trump-types and being “sold” as a bachelor to the Junior League will result in seven-figure donations, I’ll do it.

3. What are the three most important things in life to you?
Maintaining the family foundation and what it stands for, being an honest businessman, giving people a chance.

4. What music is on your playlist right now?
I’m afraid you’ll find me a bit of a bore. My grandfather raised me on Frank Sinatra. I’m at least a little more current by listening to Harry Connick, Jr. Justin Timberlake’s latest is pretty good too. I have a favorite CD by Lila Marin—her music is featured in Passion Fish. You won’t find her, though. Instead, look for Emmy Rossum’s “Inside Out” CD (Lila’s the fictional version of Emmy).

5. What is your favorite curse/dirty word?
I got my mouth washed out many a time for saying “damn” and “hell” as a boy (my grandfather’s influence), but those are still the extent to which I’ll use profanity. I find I can be much more effective using money as a way to show my displeasure at something.

6. How do you seduce and/or excite a woman?
The art of surprise is a huge turn-on for me. Because I have financial means, I am able to whisk a woman off to a private island for a romantic weekend, or I’ll simply send her a small, inexpensive gift that I know will mean something to her. I like to caress before I kiss. A woman’s skin is amazing to me; I don’t rush into sex, but rather I savor each touch and enjoy building the desire until both of us can barely hold back. I’m sure that’s why the Passion Fish game was so enticing; I was already attracted to Eve from a distance. To move in slowly, anonymously, seductively…that first kiss we shared was fantastic because of the build-up.

7. Where is the most interesting place you’ve ever made love?
On a large rug under Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring when it was on display at the Boston Museum of Art. Luckily, I had access to the
security cameras for the room it was in and was able to erase that portion of the tape the following morning.

My Ex From Hell (The Blooming Goddess Trilogy #1)
Author: Tellulah Darling
Genre: YA
Release Date: April 1, 2013

Buy Links: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Description:

Sixteen-year-old Sophie Bloom wishes she’d been taught the following:
a) Bad boy’s presence (TrOuBlE) + teen girl’s brain (DraMa) = TrAuMa (Highly unstable and very volatile.)
b) The Genus Greekulum Godissimus is notable for three traits: 1) awesome abilities, 2) grudges, and 3) hook-ups, break-ups, and in-fighting that puts cable to shame.

Prior to the Halloween dance, Sophie figures her worst problems involve adolescent theatrics, bitchy yoga girls, and being on probation  at her boarding school for mouthy behaviour. Then she meets bad boy Kai and gets the kiss that rocks her world.

Literally.

This breath stealing lip lock reawakens Sophie’s true identity: Persephone, Goddess of Spring. She’s key to saving humanity in the war between the Underworld and Olympus, target numero uno of Hades and Zeus, and totally screwed.

Plus there’s also the little issue that Sophie’s last memory as Persephone was just before someone tried to murder her.

Big picture: master her powers, get her memories back, defeat Persephone’s would be assassin, and save the world. Also, sneak into the Underworld to retrieve stolen property, battle the minions of Hades and Zeus, outwit psycho nymphs, slay a dragon, rescue a classmate, keep from getting her butt expelled from the one place designed to keep her safe …

… and stop kissing Kai, Prince of the Underworld.

My Ex From Hell is a romantic comedy/Greek mythology smackdown. Romeo and Juliet had it easy.

Tellulah Darling's Inspiration for Writing My Ex From Hell

Like many readers out there, I grew up loving fairy tales and mythologies. And I was always interested in ways that these classic stories could be reshaped and retold.

I knew that whatever I re-imagined had to fit into a romantic comedy context, since that's my passion. The first story I was drawn to was Psyche's. While I was still a professional screenwriter, I actually wrote a romantic comedy based on a modern day version of that story. But it never really gelled and ultimately didn't go anywhere. Then, on one of the last series I worked on, the showrunner and I started talking about mythologies we'd love to explore and for some reason, Persephone came to mind and just kind of stuck there.

Persephone had always been intriguing to me, but only because of her abduction by Hades. I'd never had any kind of sense of her own personality, versus many of the other "larger than life" figures in the Greek pantheon. In my readings, she always seemed to be defined more by how others saw her or reacted to her absence or presence. And I think it was precisely her blank slate that made her attractive to me.

The more I thought about it, the more I knew I didn't want to just retell her story or move it to modern day. I wanted her to have the canonical past that she did (more or less - I took great liberties inventing Kai) but then pick up her story all these years later and put her goddess self into a human teen. It's such a struggle for so many of us to figure out who we are as teens, that also giving her this goddess awakening as Humanity's Saviour, amped up the pressure cooker of her life. On the flip side, I find gods and teens are both so passionate about everything, so how fun to combine those two sides of in Sophie.

But in terms of passion, I also wanted to avoid the clich̩ that drives me nuts Рnot just in mythological retellings, but because those stories deal with grand passions, maybe it's more evident Рwhich is the insta-love factor that tends to pop up. I realize that gods in original myths did get instantly obsessed with humans, but I like love stories in which the lovers really have to earn their happy ending. Not just because of external conflict but because they have to figure out that they are right for each other. So years of cultivating specific likes and dislikes in romance stories also went into the writing of this trilogy.

Ultimately, the danger with stories that are classics is that there are reasons they have survived to this point. So if we are going to tackle them, it better be with a lot of humility and definite personal vision for them. Maybe that’s why I like playing with myths rather than doing more direct retellings of them. I’m not going to make the original better. But hopefully, I can allow readers to have some fun with a version of it.

Thanks so much for having me and happy reading!

As a child, Angela Corbett’s most prized possession was a set of read-along books. She used to follow along with the narrator on the stereo and dream of when she would be able to read by herself. Her childhood reading habit led her to consider her future career. However, after consulting with her parents, she realized she had already exceeded hobbit height and since fairies and dragonslayers were tricky jobs to get, she decided she wanted to create worlds of her own. She started writing poetry in elementary school and worked as a journalist in high school and college, but could never leave her love for writing fiction behind.
She is a graduate of Westminster College where she double majored in communication and sociology. She has worked as a journalist, freelance writer, and director of communications and marketing. She loves classic cars, traveling, and escaping in a good book. She lives in Utah with her incredibly supportive husband and their five-pound Pomeranian, Pippin, whose following of fangirls could rival Justin Bieber’s.
Eternal Starling is her debut novel and the first book in the Emblem of Eternity trilogy.

I graduated from college in Texas with a fine arts degree, and then freelanced as an art director at a graphic design firm for eight years. I dreamed of working in children’s books, so I moved to New York City and became associate art director in Scholastic trade books, where I designed books for children and worked with editors and illustrators. It was a great job. I illustrated my first published children’s book in 1992 and soon began illustrating full time. I began completing manuscripts and mailing them out to publishers in the early 1990s. In 1996, I sold my first two manuscripts — Boo Who? A Spooky Lift-the-Flap Book (Scholastic) and Pen Pals (Grosset & Dunlap). Yippee! Now I write full time and have written and/or illustrated over 130 children’s books. Creating books that entertain, inform, and interest children (and me) is a fabulous job that I truly love.

Book Blitz + Giveaway: Leap of Faith by Jamie Blair

Leap of Faith
Author: Jamie Blair
Genre: YA Contemporary
Release Date: September 3, 2013
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Description:

Can true love be built on lies? A teen on the run seeks relief and redemption in this gripping, romantic read.

Leah Kurtz has finally found a place to call home, a town where she and baby Addy can live in peace, far from the drug-infested place she grew up. Chris is one of the best parts of her new life, the only person who’s ever made her feel safe. And now that she’s found him, there’s no way she can tell the truth:

Her real name is Faith, not Leah. She’s seventeen, not nineteen. And the baby isn’t hers—Faith kidnapped her.

Faith’s history catches up with her when a cop starts asking questions and Chris’s aunt spots her picture in the newspaper. She knows it’s time to run again, but if Faith leaves, she’ll lose Chris. If Chris is in love with a lie, though, did Faith ever really have him in the first place?

After a few minutes of Chris flipping through the channels with the remote while we eat, I have to break the silence again. “How was work? Where do you work, anyway?”
“I have a glamorous job roofing houses for RJ Roofing.” He leans back and rubs his stomach. “I’ve been there a couple of years. It’s not bad. They’re good people to work for.”
“That sounds horrible to me.”
He lifts one eyebrow.
“I’m terrified of heights. I couldn’t ever go up on a roof. Plus it has to be about a hundred and fifty degrees up there.”
He chuckles. “It is. And you come home covered in tar and dirt. But the pay’s good.”
“How long have you played the guitar?” I look down at my hands.
I can’t stop asking questions.
I hate that he won’t ask me his own questions even if I won’t answer them anyway.
He stretches both arms over his head and yawns. “About five years.”
I nod and tuck my hair back again.
“Here.” He reaches into his pocket and shoots me with a rubber band. “For your hair. It’s not going to stay behind your ears.” His smile’s easy.
Tonight, his eyes match his dark blue shirt. I like his chin length hair down. It makes the angles of his face softer. Faint stubble has grown on his chin. No wonder I’m obsessed with him. He’s hot.
My eyes make their way back to his, and I can tell he knows what I’m thinking. I shift to peer at the TV, feeling my pulse race. I ball my hair on top of my head and wrap the rubber band around it.
“Faith,” he mumbles.
I jerk around. “What did you say?”
“The tattoo on the back of your neck, it says hope and faith.”
I reach around with my hand, covering my tattoo. It’s a banner inside angel wings with our names on it. Hope and Faith. My sister and I got them last summer. It took me forever and five days to talk her into it. She got hers as a tramp stamp, thinking she could hide it. More people have seen hers than mine since her track pants sit low on her hips.
“Yeah.” I swallow my fight or flight instinct. “Do you have any tattoos?”
In one swift movement, he whips off his t-shirt. There, in the middle of his tan chest, beside a smear of paint, is a cross with two dates inscribed on it. One across, one down. Its intricate design has my fingers itching to touch. Instead, I crawl on my knees around the table to get a closer look.
Jamie Blair spent most of her teen years choreographing moves for her dance team routines, kissing boys on the couch after her mom went to bed, and pondering the mood enhancement qualities of Lemon Heads when consumed with Diet Coke. Writing under Kelli Maine, she’s the USA Today bestselling author of Taken. Leap of Faith is her debut New Adult novel.
