Rome (Marked Men #3)

Author: Jay Crownover
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 7, 2014
Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks

Descriptions:

Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right . . .

Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man—a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, supersoldier—but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray.Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever . . .

Rome is the third book in the Marked Men series - a New Adult contemporary romance series that follows the tattooed guys from Marked tattoo shop. This installment features the oldest of them, Rome Archer, as he attempts to fit back into civilian life after serving for almost a decade in the Army. He's seen and done things that have changed him forever, and he's having a hard time adjusting to life back at home. Rome's character is very realistic and honest. I like that the author was so candid about soldiers returning home after war and having PTSD and problems readjusting. It sheds light on a sensitive and important topic in our society. Aside from being back from the Army, Rome is the ultimate American man - he's tall, strong, loyal, protective of those he loves, and totally hot.

The other main character in the story is leading lady Cora Lewis - or "Tink" to her friends. She may be short and petite, but she's got the attitude and guts of someone twice her size. She works at Marked with "her guys" - they are all incredibly close and love each other like family. Cora is very protective of her friends and won't hesitate to stick up for them or anything else she believes is wrong. She's witty, unique, smart, and devoted to those she loves. Ever since her ex-boyfriend broke her heart, Cora has decided that she won't settle for just any guy ever again. She's going to wait for her "perfect man" - one who won't betray her like her ex and one who's going to be there for the long haul. She can be kind of annoying throughout the book - especially when it comes to this topic - but I found that it didn't bother me that much (aside from the parts where I wanted to smack her in the head or tell her to shut up). What she doesn't have in mind is that her idea of the perfect man might clash with who the perfect man for her actually is.

I loved watching Rome and Cora interact together and how their relationship progressed. The story is told from alternating viewpoints - those of Cora and Rome. I loved that the author wrote the book in this style - I think it gives the reader insight into each of the character's thoughts and emotions that we wouldn't be able to know otherwise. The setting was great for the book - it fit right in with the rest of the series - and the plot was a fun romance with deeper issues mixed in. Although the plot wasn't wholly original, I found it to have a great pace with a natural flow to it, so I just flew through the pages. This book, along with the rest of the series, is definitely going to making waves in the New Adult genre. Fans of contemporary romance and New Adult fiction should absolutely get their hands on this book (and series) - you won't regret it!

I'm supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I'm an natural redhead even though I haven't seen my real hair color in years, I'm a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I've been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.

I love to write, love to read and all I'm interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.

Thanks for taking the time to check my stuff out....
