Description:

Being the daughter of a big-city mayor, twenty-one year old Skye Summers has giant shoes to fill in her first real job out of college. With the public spotlight on her family, and her dad’s expectations running high, she jumps at the chance to work side-by-side on an important project with her sexy new boss.

Playboy entrepreneur Landon Steele has built a successful entertainment PR firm and broken more than a few hearts along the way. He’s counting on his enthusiastic new assistant to help him expand his business into LA… until he discovers she’s a pampered rich girl who’s in the public spotlight as much as his famous clients. Still, he agrees to give her a chance, and soon the two are heating up the bedroom as well as the boardroom.

But when Skye’s ex-boyfriend threatens to reveal a dangerous secret from her past, her job, relationship with Landon, and her father’s career are suddenly all on the line. Will she be forced to leave Landon? Or will she pursue her heart, regardless of the cost?

“I miss you girls,” I said. Tears burned behind my eyes.
Not missing a beat, Ellie said, “Skye, what's wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing. I'm just so happy you guys are here. So how's life with Mr. Rich and Famous?” I deflected.
The smile that overcame Ellie's face made me envious. Not in a jealous I-wish-she-didn’t-have-that way. In a wistful way, where I hoped that someday there'd be someone to put the same smile on my face.
“Life with Mason is incredible. All the traveling takes some getting used to, but I'm glad that we're back in L.A. for a few months while he works on his new album. It'll be good to stay in one place for a while.”
“Except when you come to visit us,” Katie said.
“Which you’re going to do often, right?” I added.
“No doubt about it.” Ellie winked.
Ellie filled us in about life on the road and some of the cities her and Mason had visited on tour. When the food arrived, instead of sitting at the breakfast bar, we all opted to eat off our laps in my living room.
“So Katie, any more dating disasters?” Ellie asked.
“Oh my God, you guys. If I have to go out with another live-at-home loser, I'm gonna shoot myself.”
“Hey!” Ellie and I both said in unison.
“I just moved out of my parents’ house, thank you,” I said.
“That’s different. I like dating older guys. I'm sorry, but if you're in your late twenties and still living with mom and dad, something's up.” We both nodded in agreement. “Even worse if you have to borrow mom's car to pick me up for our date.”
“You can't be serious,” I giggled. Katie sent me a death glare.
“Where do you find these guys?” Ellie asked with an amused tone.
“Online mostly. It's like searching through a second-hand shop for an almost new pair of Manolo Bhlaniks. I’m looking for a diamond in the rough.”
“You are not leaving me with much hope for re-entering the dating world,” I said.
“I haven’t even told you about the guy who sent me a picture of his penis in a strappy high-heel sandal.”
“What?” Ellie screeched.
“It was impressive, actually. I’d say he’d fill a size ten for sure, but seriously—who does that?”
“Do you have the picture on your phone?” I asked.
“Of course,” Katie replied.
“Well, let’s see it!” Ellie said.
Katie grabbed her phone from her purse, scrolled through it for a moment, and finally turned her phone to face us.
“Oh. My. God,” I said in disbelief and then started to laugh.
“It actually almost looks like a foot in there. How is that possible?” Ellie asked, laughing.
“It took me a minute, too,” Katie said.
“So do you consider that a foot fetish, a shoe fetish, or something else entirely?” I was laughing so hard that it was all I could do to get the words out.
“Where does a guy even get the idea for that? Like, is he sitting around the house one day thinking, ‘I wonder what my dick would look like in a pair of Jimmy Choo’s?” Ellie said.
“Do you think he wears the shoes, too?” I questioned.
“Skye, take a look…he is wearing the shoe,” Katie pointed out.
“I think she means on his actual feet,” Ellie said, giggling.
“All I know is I don’t want my lady bits anywhere near a guy that’s had his penis in a fungus factory like a shoe.”
“Oh God. Can you imagine?” I said, disgusted by the thought.
“I wonder what it would look like in a peep toe…” Ellie said and trailed off, looking like she was actually trying to picture it in her mind.
“Hmm…kind of like a peep-penis shoe,” Katie said.
“I wonder if instead of heel supports he uses ball supports?” We all laughed together until we literally couldn’t laugh any more. Finally, Katie said, “Anyway, like the mayor's daughter has any trouble getting a date with a decent, employed guy.”
Before I could tell her that no one, employed or otherwise, had asked me on a date recently, Ellie cut in. “Have you heard from Vic at all since you split?” She may have kept tight-lipped about her dislike of Vic while I was still dating him, but I expected now that he wasn't in my life anymore, I was going to get the unedited version.
I’d given both my friends a surface-level rundown of the events leading up to the demise of Skye and Vic. Looked like it was time to pony up.
