Book Blitz + Giveaway: Alien Minds by Christina Bauer

Alien Minds (Dimension Drift #1)
Author Christina Bauer
Genre: YA Science Fiction

Publication Date: June 5, 2019
Publisher: Monster House Books

Description:

DIVERGENT meets OCEAN’S EIGHT in this urban fantasy heist!
On my seventeenth birthday, I wake up in the hospital to find I just survived a sketchy but terrible accident. My parents stand by my bedside—both are beautiful, wealthy, and super-nice. They tell me that once I leave the hospital, I’ll attend the prestigious ECHO Academy, where I’ll churn out equations for the government along with my mega-smart peers.

So, I’m living the perfect life.

Then why does everything feel all wrong?

My parents, my house and even ECHO Academy…none of it fits. Plus, what’s up with Thorne, my brooding yet yummy classmate who keeps telling me I need to remember my true past, which seems to have included a lot of us kissing? That’s one thing I’d really like to remember, except for the fact that I’m pretty sure Thorne is hiding a ton of nasty secrets of his own, including the fact that he may not be from this world. But considering how my own past seems alien to me, it’s not like I can judge. Plus, Thorne has dimples. That’s a problem.

And worst of all, why does it feel so yucky to work on these calculations for the government? It’s all supposed to be part of ECHO, but my heart tells me that I’m helping something truly terrible come to pass. Thorne seems to think that kissing him again will release my real memories.

Maybe it’s time to pucker up.

“Appealing and engaging. Love the strong female character!” Arlene’s Book Reviews

This new series is perfect for: fans of urban fantasy, action & adventure, cool science, evil corporations, forbidden romance and hot new classmates who may or may not be aliens.

“Intoxication with technology is the hallmark of an underdeveloped society.” – Beauregard the Great, Instructions for Visiting Parallel Worlds

After spending hours on guard duty, I can finally leave Mass General. Soon I’m tooling my hoverbike toward the outskirts of the Boston Dome. Overhead, a cloud-free sky is projected onto the plasma. Tall buildings loom around me in a maze of chrome and concrete.

An image appears in my mind. Meimi—I never even think the false name Wisteria—lies curled on her hospital bed, drugged up and asleep. Every instinct in my soul says I should’ve stayed behind and guarded her while she rested. Not an option. An important appointment is coming up, and I can’t miss it.

For Meimi.

Of course, Godwin—my boss and Meimi’s doctor—doesn’t know I’m leaving the city. Then again, the doctor doesn’t know a lot of things about me.

Like the fact that I’m not from this planet.

Plus, I’m not just any alien. My father’s the Emperor of the Omniverse, the universe of universes.

So what Godwin doesn’t know about me is quite a lot, actually.

Meimi doesn’t know much, either. To begin with, she doesn’t remember that I’m her transcendent. Even worse, she thinks I’m in league with someone as evil as Godwin. Not to mention that I’m part of a government creating an apocalypse for anyone who isn’t perfect.

Bands of sorrow tighten around my chest. There’s no avoiding the truth. Meimi sees me as her enemy. I straighten my spine. But being her enemy? That keeps my girl safe. So that’s what I’ll no do, no matter how much it tears at my soul.

“A fun romp for Twilight Fans” – School Library Journal

After being raised by the meanest fairies in the history of ever, Bryar Rose is now free to live her own life. For the first time, she’s attending West Lake Prep, a regular high school. Well, mostly regular. Some students are actually hidden members of the Magicorum. In other words, they’re really wizards, fairies, or shifters. Bry doesn’t mind, though. She’s thrilled to enjoy all the new experiences of being around normal kids her age, from locker pranks to lunchtime mystery meat. Everything is going along great, except for one thing.

Bry’s dreams about the pyramids of Egypt have gotten darker and more sinister. Every night, she sees her new man Knox and her best friend Elle in danger.

“Exciting and well-conceived” – Kirkus

With no other choice, Bry plans to leave school to explore the pyramids on her own. But her new man Knox discovers the scheme and is having none of it. He wants to stay by her side, no matter what. It’s a good thing too, because Bry must solve the mystery of her attraction to the pyramids and soon. Otherwise, it could cost the lives of those she loves most.

And that means not only Knox, but also her best friend Elle.

“Must-read YA paranormal romance!” – USA Today

SHIFTERS AND GLYPHS
BOOK EXCERPT
CHAPTER ONE

Shifters And Glyphs
Fairy Tales of the Magicorum, Book 2
SAMPLE: Knox’s Fairy Tale Life Template

Knox’s upper body expands. Fur erupts across his skin. His face elongates into a muzzle. His fingers lengthen into claws. I pop my hands over my mouth.

He said his life template was Beauty And The Beast.

This is the Beast.

Knox reaches for me. “Come with us to the pyramids or else.” I step backwards. My inner wolf whines in confusion.

“Why is our mate threatening us?” she whimpers.

“He doesn’t want to do this,” I say. “Not really.”

Grey mist has overtaken Knox’s eyes. Now, that haze swirls even faster. “Come with us or die.”

“Leave Bry alone!” cries Elle. My best friend lunges for Knox. My mate bats her away with one swipe of his massive arm, sending her flying across the room. Elle slides across the temple floor until her

head rams into the far wall. A loud CRACK echoes through the stone chamber.

I race toward to her. “Elle!” Kneeling beside my best friend, I set my fingers on her throat. There’s still a pulse. I pull back her eyelid. Her pupils contract. I exhale.

Nearby, Alec’s features tighten with rage as he rounds on Knox. “What have you done?”

“She’ll be fine,” I explain.

“You. Hurt. Her.” Curling his hands into fists, Alec races toward Knox. I’ve never seen Alec go for physical battle before—he’s always reached for some gemstones. That said, I’ve never seen Alec this enraged before, either.

Alec only gets within a few feet of Knox when my mate strikes. Grabbing Alec around the waist, Knox flips the wizard over through the air. Alec ends up slammed back-first onto the temple floor. He doesn’t move afterwards.

No. No, no, no.

An Epilogue Novella

At last, Elea and Rowan are settling in to their new lives. Trouble is, Rowan is spending a lot of time cleaning up messes from his childhood. And considering the nightmare that was his mother, those are some ugly messes indeed. In fact, the experience is enough to make Rowan vow that he never wants children of his own.

Meeting the Lightning Goddess

“It’s the round gateway,” I whispered. “The one from Jicho’s vision.” I repeated the boy’s prophecy once more.

“Watch for the round gateway; it will bring you the lightning goddess and her consort.”

Rowan scanned the loop of brightness as it whirled above our heads. “If that’s a gateway, then I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

Heavy silence filled the central feasting hall. The swirl of light by the ceiling flared more brightly, casting odd shadows onto the tapestries and floor. A charged sense of anticipation hung in the air.

I shared a quick glance with Rowan. Every line of his rugged face was tight with determination.

Light pulsed in the center of the round gateway as a man and a woman tumbled through, landing on the floor in a crouch. Although their backs were facing us, I could still make out some basics about the pair. The woman was tall as me but far more curvy. Her long auburn hair cascaded down her back. The man beside her was broad shouldered and fit with short brown hair. Both of them were wore black body armor like none I’d ever seen before. It appeared not to be flexible. Interesting.

Something twitched behind the woman, and that’s when I noticed it. She had a tail. It was long, black, and covered in some kind of scales. The end was as pointed as an arrow.

In our realm, we did have people with non-human body parts. They were called Changed Ones, and they were the unfortunate results of by brother Viktor’s experiments in combining Casters with their animal familiars. My stomach sank. Was it possible that Viktor had somehow gotten to this woman and her realm?

The man lifted his right arm, and he was holding a severed head in his fist.

Wait, a head?

I rubbed my eyes, wondering if I was seeing things. But once I lowered my hands, the man was still there, his back facing to us. And he still gripped a severed head in his hand. And what a head it was. The thing had the profile of a humanoid pig with green skin and a pair of large curlicue horns growing out of each temple. The man gripped the head by a single horn.

“The good news is, we killed the phase demon.” The man tossed the head onto the floor before him.

“The bad news is, he phased us somewhere before he died,” added the woman. Her tail perked up and tapped her shoulder. The woman looked to the arrowhead end. “What’s up, boy?”

The tail gestured toward me and Rowan as if to say: pay attention; there’s something behind you.

The woman slowly turned around. “Hello there,” she said. If she was shocked to be in a strange place, she didn’t show it.

The man turned around as well. He had mismatched eyes—one blue and one brown—as well as strong bone structure. The pair of us were a study in opposites. I was thin and dark haired, while the woman was curvy with long reddish locks. The man was pale and regal looking. At the same time, Rowan may be a king, but he always looked tanned and rugged.

The woman waved at us. “I said, hello there.”

“Hello,” I replied. “I’m Elea and this is Rowan. Who are you?”

“I’m Myla,” said the woman.

The man gave us a chin-nod. “Lincoln.”

Rowan stepped forward. “Are you a lightning goddess, by any chance?”

“You could call me that,” answered Myla.

I couldn’t help but smile. Jicho’s prophecy was coming true.
