Her father raised his fist and punched her in the face and then called out for the guards. Before she had a chance to recover or defend herself, she was being dragged out of the office and through a corridor. Her vision blurred from tears, and her head swam as she called out desperately for her mother. Liz heard running of feet and turned to see her mother gasp as she was then pulled down the cellar stairs and into the basement.
She saw empty and full cells as she was dragged past the prisoners who cried out for water and help. Liz felt too weak to react as she was thrown into a cell. Her wrists were pulled up and chained to a damp and cold wall. She hoped her mum would put a stop to this unbelievable cruelty and madness. I would never treat my child like this. But as the cell door closed and she waited and waited, Liz knew that there was going to be no reprieve for her and that her mother didn’t care that her daughter was incarcerated like some thief or murderer. It wasn’t long after they left her chained up, that her head felt too heavy to keep up. Everything ached and she became dizzy and spun into darkness as despair overtook her mind.
Karina Kantas is a prolific author of 14 titles. Including
