Description:
Readers will happily sink
into this emotionally grounded, contemporary young adult novel about the sudden
end of one girl's Olympic swimming dreams and the struggles she endures before
realizing there are many things that define who we are.
Sixteen-year-old Abby Lipman
is on track to win the state swim championships and qualify for the Olympic
trials when a fainting incident at a swim meet leads to the diagnosis of a
deadly heart condition. Now Abby is forced to discover who she is without the
one thing that's defined her entire life.
TOP FIVE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
For someone whose job requires imagination, I’m surprisingly terrible at coming up with good Halloween costumes. Usually, this is only a problem once a year but it became a bigger problem while I was working on A Matter of Heart. In the book, all the characters meet up at the biggest party of the year, which just happens to be—you guessed it—a Halloween costume party.
So, I needed costumes for everyone. All I knew was that Abby and Jen couldn’t agree. Connor was keeping his costume a surprise and Alec, well, is Alec the type of guy who would dress up?
What did they wear…and were they awesome costumes? I’ll let you decide. But in the meantime, here is my top five.
TOP FIVE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES:
EASIEST COSTUME I’VE EVER WORN: SMARTYPANTS - Pin Smarties candies to a pair of pants and voila!
MY CUTEST COMIC COSTUME: SPONGE BABE
BEST IDEA TAKEN FROM CURRENT NEWS: NBC news anchor Brian Williams—wearing a kid’s helicopter beanie hat. (He’s the guy who lied and said he was on a helicopter that was shot down in Iraq.)
BEST COSTUME I’VE BOUGHT OFF OF EBAY:
BEST ORIGINAL IDEA (And what I’m going to wear this year!)
Make a sign to wear that says this:
Five gallon bucket
Water bucket
Lunch bucket
Sand bucket
Wooden bucket
Bucket seat
Bucket of dreams
And that’s it—you’re A BUCKET LIST! :)
I admit, those are mostly lame. How about you? Any great costumes you’ve made or ideas you have? (In case, you know, I need to steal them for my next book.) :)

I actually like the bucket list idea! ;) This year I'm determined to dress up like Clippy (do you remember the annoying paperclip which was suppose to help you on Word?)! BTW, I can't wait to read this book, being a swimmer myself, I think I can relate!
