Genesis (Project Nemesis #2)
Author: Brendan Reichs
Release Date: March 6, 2018
Publisher: G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers

Description:

Noah Livingston knows he is destined to survive.

The 64 members of Fire Lake's sophomore class are trapped in a place where morals have no meaning, and zero rules apply. But Noah's deaths have trained him--hardened him--to lead the strongest into the future . . . whatever that may be. And at any cost.

Min Wilder knows that survival alone isn't enough.

Trapped in a violent world where brute force passes for leadership, it's tempting to lay back and let everyone else fight it out. But Min's instincts rebel against allowing others to decide who lives and who dies. She's ready to fight for what she believes in. And against whomever might stand in her way.

Genesis is the heart-pounding second installment in one of the most original young adult series I've read. The plot is pretty intricate and woven together, so you need to read the first book before this one if you want to understand anything that happens. There wasn't anything about this novel that I didn't love. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I was a little afraid that this book wouldn't live up to the first installment. So many series have amazing beginnings only to tank in the following books. That definitely wasn't the case here, and I'm so incredibly excited and glad.

Like I said, I loved every aspect of this book, just like the first. The writing was well done with tons of vivid imagery and detailed descriptions that brought the characters, the setting, and the story itself to life before my eyes. I easily slipped back into Min and Noah's world right from the beginning and it felt like no time had passed since I finished the last book. As always, I really liked getting to know our main characters better. Min and Noah are both wonderful characters with distinct personalities and flaws that make them very realistic and easy to relate to. They've both changed and grown since everything that happened in the last book, and they continue to do so in this novel as well. The secondary characters were also well written and stood out as strong individuals throughout the story.

The plot was fantastic and I didn't want the book to end. I couldn't get enough of this novel (or the series) and I wish they could've been longer. I don't do spoilers in my reviews, so I can't say much about the plot itself without revealing anything. I will say that I found it highly unique and a huge breath of fresh air for the entire young adult genre. It defies genre labels and can't be put in any specific category. I think there's something for everyone in this book to enjoy. I can't recommend this book or series highly enough and I encourage fans of every genre to read it as soon as possible!
