From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying comes your next obsession. You'll never feel the same about family again.

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they've never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they're surprised...and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point--not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother's good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it's immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious--and dark--their family's past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn't over--and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.

One of my favorite genres is YA thriller/mystery and the author, Karen McManus, has quickly climbed to the top of my go-to authors for the genre. I've read all of her other books (and loved them all!) and I had high hopes and expectations going into this one. I definitely wasn't let down in the least.

One thing about this book that I absolutely loved was the writing style. The story is told by multiple narrators - Milly, Aubrey, Jonah, and Allison - from two different time periods, the present and the past. The main characters of the story (Milly, Aubrey and Jonah) narrate alternating chapters throughout the book. I loved the multiple perspectives and seeing the story unfold through each one of their eyes. Each of their chapters is done in the first person point of view, which is my favorite and (I think) a perfect fit for this book. We get to really know the cousins throughout the story - their inner thoughts and feelings, dreams and fears, insecurities, and everything in between. This incredible writing was a huge factor in my reading experience and I thought it was nothing short of fantastic.

The plot itself was great and told in an amazing way. It might not have been wholly original and I did see most things coming before they happened, but how many books can you honestly say are completely unique anymore? Basically none of them. I think the author took a relatively common story line and added in some twists and flair to make it her own. The result was another fantastic book in the YA thriller genre by one of the best authors out there. I highly recommend this book to fans of YA, mystery, thriller, suspense, and contemporary fiction as well as readers who have read and enjoyed the author's other titles.
