The Field
Author: Tracy Richardson
Genre: YA
Release Date: October 2013
Publisher: Luminis Books, Inc.
Description:
Eric Horton has been
having disturbing nightmares of explosions and fire and someone
screaming. The dreams keep him up at night, but during the day, as a
goalkeeper on his high school’s varsity soccer team, he has been
unbeatable, saving shot after shot with what feels like a supernatural
awareness of where the ball is headed. He also shares an uncommonly
strong connection with Renee, the attractive new French exchange
student. The wild visions and synchronicities pale in comparison to the
strange experiments Renee’s father is carrying out in the physics lab at
the university, however. He has asked Eric to take part in the tests,
which makes Eric question whether what he is seeing and hearing is
reality or something far beyond it. When his friend Will develops a
drinking problem and Renee starts flirting with other guys, Eric loses
his confidence on the soccer field and in himself. If he is going to
pull it all together, he will have to tap into a part of himself that he
never knew existed.
10 Random Things
1. I held the indoor 220 yard dash record (it was a long time ago before the conversion to meters) at my high school for many years.
2. My family is composed of one vegetarian, one vegan, one low-carb eater and a mainly carnivorous eater. I have to get really creative when making meals! Thank goodness the dog will eat anything!
3. I have boy-girl twins and when they were little people were always asking me if they were identical. No – one’s a boy and one’s a girl. Remember high school biology class?!?!
4. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle is one of my favorite books. There are interesting synchronicities between me and the book. I have a degree in biology like Mrs. Murray. We named our children Alex and Katie not realizing that Meg’s parents’ names are Alex and Kate. My husband is Greek and Madeleine’s daughter married a Greek man. Another of her books, The Arm of the Starfish is set in Greece. I’m a little obsessed about it!!
5. I like to knit and have made just about everyone in my family hats, scarves and sweaters. They are getting sick of it I think!
6. After college I traveled through Europe with three friends for twelve weeks on $1500. I even came home with money left over.
7. I went to college thinking I would become a doctor. Now I write novels.
8. I am a complete science geek. I especially love anything to do with outer space.
9. I belong to a spiritual group that explores metaphysical and spiritual ideas. I meditate daily and love exploring inner space as well as outer space.
10. I have a weird fear of driving next to water in the dark.
Tracy Richardson is the author of THE FIELD (Moonbeam Award winner) and INDIAN SUMMER. Her realistic fiction also delves into science fiction, just to keep things interesting. When she has free time, you will likely find her painting furniture, knitting scarves, gardening or whipping up gourmet meals for her vegetarian, no-carb, omnivore family. Ernie, her Jack Russell Terrier, will eat anything.
