Welcome to my stop on the Kalahari Safari! If you’re new to the Safari, check in at Base Camp to learn what it’s about and how you can win!
From the Author:
Here are five fascinating facts about the Kalahari:
- While there is no surface water in the Kalahari (besides puddles created during the rainy season), this semi-desert actually sits on top of several massive reservoirs of water. Plans were once made to access this water and make the desert arable, but they were never carried out.
- The Kalahari is rich with diamonds—some of the world’s largest diamond mines are found in the area. Sadly, this may be one of the reasons for the eviction of many San tribes who dwelt there.
- “Kalahari” is a derivative of the Twsala word “Kgalagadi,” meaning “Great Thirst.”
- The San Bushmen are considered to be the oldest surviving culture in the world, but the infringement of the outside world has put their traditional lifestyle in danger of being lost.
- The Kalahari is the setting for several popular films/books, including The Gods Must be Crazy, the TV show Meerkat Manor, and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

Rainforest, no doubt. The amazing animals there, and all the plants! The biodiversity is huge and I think it would just be absolutely stunning <3
ReplyDeleteI would definitely pick the South Pacific island from Vitro! The rainforest is always rainy and usually dense whereas an island would have a beautiful beach and some jungle to hike through.
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely pick either the rainforest or Botswana. But Botswana is in Africa... How about whatever place has the most animals?
ReplyDeleteI would choose the South Pacific Island in Vitro!
ReplyDeleteSouth Pacific island! Rainforests and deserts are not for me!
ReplyDeleteI would visit the South Pacific Island from Vitro.
ReplyDeleteI would like to visit either the Amazon rainforest or a South Pacific island mostly because I probably wouldn't died from the deadly heat. Plus the Amazon rainforest has so much flora and fauna!
ReplyDeleteI would either visit Botswana or the Amazon rainforest. Both have amazing views and wildlife and would be an amazing experience.
ReplyDeleteI would go to the Amazon Rainforest for sure <3 I love the natural beauty of everything there (minus all the things that can kill me but with beauty comes danger I guess).

I'm going to have to go with the South Pacific island because 1) I sunburn too easily for the desert and 2) my hair frizzes too easily for the rain forest. Hey, it's something to consider, okay? Plus, I loooooove water!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to visit a rainforest, so I'd definitely choose the Amazon Rainforest.
ReplyDeleteKalahari
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit a South Pacific island
ReplyDeleteI would totally pick South Pacific island. Do I hear island paradise getaway?
ReplyDeleteMicaela- I would visit the South Pacific, the Kalahari and Amazon are too risky for one single person, maybe if I were in a group instead...
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit the Amazon because I am an environmental studies major and anything related to nature fascinates me. I think it would be such a cool place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd enjoy the South Pacific. It sounds tropical and the least dangerous...
