Paint My Body Red
Author: Heidi R. Kling
Genre: YA Contemporary
Release Date: November 2, 2015
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Description:
Dead teenager number seven. With the rash of suicides at my school, I've been shipped off to my dad's Wyoming ranch for “my own safety.” My mom worries I'll be next—another depressed teenager whose blood will end up on the train tracks. But she doesn't know my secrets...or what I did.
Everything has changed at the ranch since I was there last. The staff is gone, and there aren’t any visitors. The place is struggling, and ALS is destroying my dad. The one bright spot in this mess is his new—and only—ranch hand, Jake. He’s gorgeous, cheerful, healthy and sane. Shadows don't haunt his eyes and eat away at him in the night.
But the ranch and Jake can't save me from the darkness inside, or the knowledge of what I've done. This time, it's up to me to save myself...
Ideal Casting for PAINT MY BODY RED
1. Jake: For Jake the Cowboy we need someone who is physically 19, but an old soul. Someone who shows years of wisdom but with a young face. This is a tall order. Someone who has faced difficulties, and continues to face challenges, but always keeps his cool. Someone who holds his feelings close to the chest, but always stands up for what he believes in. I’d say a little bit younger version of Chase Crawford’s hunky, passionate, sweet, driven oil-lovin character in the new show BLOOD AND OIL could meets Dean from Supernatural:
2. Paige: Paige is an intense, multifaceted risk-taking character who goes from being depressed and moody to headstrong and sarcastic and capable to finally happy (phew) in the course of the novel. So we’d need an actress with chops. Physically she has long honey-colored hair and blue eyes. In the beginning of the novel she’s way too thin, a repercussion of all the stress she was under back in California. After Anna’s home cooked fried chicken, mashed potatoes and strawberry shortcake night after night, she fills back out, and gets strong. Her hair and eyes brighten back to what they were before. So I’d say an actress with a lot of emotional and physically range. I’d go with Emma Watson. (Think she could pull of a California/Wyoming accent? I do!)
3. Gus Mason: We’d need a seasoned actor with chops to play the ALS stricken patriarch of Eight Hands Ranch. I’d go with Josh Brolin who was fabulously soulful and rugged playing opposite Kate Winslet in LABOR DAY.
4. ANNA: While we’re here, let’s just go ahead and cast Kate Winslet as tough-as-nails Anna---the woman who steps in as the rock of the falling apart family she’s not even a blood relative of.
