Bookishly Ever After (Ever After #1)
Author: Isabel Bandeira
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 12, 2016
Publisher: Spencer Hill Contemporary

Synopsis:

In a perfect world, sixteen-year-old Phoebe Martins’ life would be a book. Preferably a YA novel with magic and a hot paranormal love interest. Unfortunately, her life probably wouldn’t even qualify for a quiet contemporary. But when Phoebe finds out that Dev, the hottest guy in the clarinet section, might actually have a crush on her, she turns to her favorite books for advice. Phoebe overhauls her personality to become as awesome as her favorite heroines and win Dev’s heart. But if her plan fails, can she go back to her happy world of fictional boys after falling for the real thing?
Top ten things you didn’t know about me:

1. My first language was Portuguese, even though I was born in the States. I didn’t know English until I went to school, and most of what I knew came from watching Sesame Street. Both of my parents came here from Portugal when they were teens and it was important to them for me to be bilingual, so they decided to only speak to me in Portuguese until I had to speak English for school.

2. In college, I fenced (foil and epee) on a men’s fencing team because my school didn’t have enough women to form a team. Not a huge surprise when you realize that the school was 80% male!

3. Because of Bookishly Ever After, I took up Olympic recurve archery. I was doing research for the archery scenes and I ended up falling in love with the sport. I now have my own bow and take lessons from an amazing coach at a local archery range.

4. I love to sew (just like Phoebe’s sister, Trixie!) and actually sewed my sister’s prom gowns and wedding gown.

5. Em may be a history nerd, but so am I, and like Em, I’m more interested in the people part than the battles/politics. I love visiting historic homes, love period clothing, I was a part of the medieval society in college and even sewed my own gowns. I can wax poetic about my great-great-great-…-grandmother’s linen and colonial kitchen tools.

6. I love vintage hats and have collected quite a few, including a 1920s cloche, some adorable fascinators from the 1950s, and a 1940s New Look platter hat.

7. I wanted to be an astronaut. When I started studying engineering, I was torn between medical and space and even thought about mixing them to become something like Dr. Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation. But, my mom reminded me that I get incredibly motion sick if you look funny at me and I’d be the worst astronaut EVER, so that dream was crushed. I did get to work on a student project for NASA and was the first freshman at my school assigned to it, so I at least had that consolation.

8. I play flute and piccolo, similar to Phoebe, and got in trouble in high school because I had propped my book on my music stand and was reading during wind ensemble.

9. I was a sciencelete (like Grace and Alec). I actually took Biology, Chemistry, and Physics tests for fun in high school. The only letter I earned in high school was in Academic Challenge (which is like Quiz Bowl or other similar team quiz leagues)—but, yes, I was a letterwoman (and have the jacket to prove it)!

10. In middle school I went through a phase where I read Dracula about 20 times and absolutely loved it. And, to be honest, the first part of Dracula still makes me hungry because there’s lots of descriptions of good Hungarian and Romanian food (chicken paprikash, anyone?)

Isabel Bandeira grew up surrounded by trees and lakes in Southern New Jersey, right on the edge of the Pine Barrens. Her summers were always spent in Portugal, where the cathedrals, castles, and ancient tombs only fed her fairy tale obsession. Between all those influences and her serious glitter addiction, it wasn’t a surprise when she started writing stories of her own.

In her free time between writing and her day job as a Mechanical Engineer who designs and develops medical devices, she reads, dances, figure skates, and knits.

Isabel lives in New Jersey with her little black cat, too many books, and a closetful of vintage hats. She is represented by Carrie Howland of Donadio & Olson. BOOKISHLY EVER AFTER is her debut novel.
