A supernatural horror thriller for readers of Chuck Palahniuk (Lullaby and Haunted: A Novel), Marisha Pessl,(Night Film), and Scarlett Thomas (The End of Mr. Y), The Last Book You’ll Ever Read tells the terrifying story of a woman who knows the horrific truth about the past – and future - of humankind, and, when captured in her book SATYR, it becomes the catalyst for worldwide, mind-numbing violence.
Read this book at your own peril.
Olivia Kade wrote the book that ended the world. Now she needs someone who won't read it.
Civilization is a lie. Hidden deep in our genes is the truth. And it is slowly
clawing its way to the surface. Olivia Kade knows the truth, and she has become
the prophet of the coming collapse. Her book, SATYR, is an
international bestseller, and it is being blamed for acts of senseless violence
and bloodshed all over the world. Olivia's own life is in danger from those who
have read her work. Determined to conduct a book tour, she hires security
professional Connor Wilson to act as her bodyguard. She only has one
requirement: he cannot read her work.
John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness meets Chuck
Palahniuk’s Lullaby in this terrifyingly dangerous tale
of the descent of humankind where reality and fantasy collide.
Collects the entire smash 8-issue series.
Reviews:
"I truly hope this terrific horror comic is in no way
prescient or timely." - Patton Oswalt
“…perfectly disturbing and mysterious.” – The Beat
“It’s creepy stuff… you won’t want to miss it.” - Kurt Busiek (Eisner
Award and Harvey Award-winning comics writer of Astro City, The
Avengers, Thor, Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and more)
List your favorite graphic novels or comics from when you were a child and talk about how you see them as an adult.
CULLEN - As a kid, I was deeply passionate about Marvel’s THE MICRONAUTS. It was such an amazing study in world-building, and it was a terrific epic space opera. It was the comic that made me love comics, and I am still passionate about it today. I also loved the UNCANNY X-MEN. I loved those characters and how there was really a long game at work. There would be story elements introduced in an issue and they wouldn’t pay off for years. And I loved it. It’s a style of storytelling that just isn’t all the rage today, and I wish it was. I actually had the chance to write both MICRONAUTS (for IDW) and UNCANNY X-MEN, and while I didn’t necessarily get to tell all the stories I wanted to, I’m glad to have had the chance!
LEILA - I was a huge fan of Tintin , as a kid I liked the idea of the young Tintin detective with his dog travelling the world, but as an adult reading them now I realized that they are out of time, out of touch, and mostly racist and sexist.
List your favorite graphic novels this year and why you like them.
LEILA - Unfortunately, I didnt have time to read a lot this year with all my books contracted ! I started (to read) a few comic book series and one novel, but I didn’t have time to finish them ! I wish I can find more time !
What are your favorite prose books – and why do you like them?
CULLEN - There are so, so many. The works of Stephen King, Thomas Ligotti, and Bentley Little spring to mind immediately. Clive Barker’s short stories from THE BOOKS OF BLOOD. Ray Bradbury’s short stories. The works of Robert McCammon, in particular BOY’S LIFE, which I consider my absolute favorite novel. It’s an exploration of growing up, living in a small town, and the magic of youth. And it’s a murder mystery as well! It reminded me of my own childhood… only I never had to solve a murder. Only the luckiest of kids found themselves in that kind of adventure.
