Cover Reveal: Spies, Lies, and Allies: A Love Story by Lisa Brown Roberts

Let us know what you think of the cover for Spies, Lies, and Allies: A Love Story by Lisa Brown Roberts, which releases May 1, 2018!

This cover reveal is brought to you by Entangled Teen.

About Spies, Lies, and Allies: A Love Story:

Summers are supposed to be fun, right? Not mine. I've got a job at my dad's company, which is sponsoring a college scholarship competition. I just found out that, in addition to my job assisting the competing interns, I'm supposed to vote for the winner. Totally not what I signed up for.

There's a crazy guy running the competition like it's an episode of Survivor. Then there’s Carlos, who is, well, very distracting –– in a good way. But I can't even think about him that way because Crazy Guy says any fraternizing on the job means instant disqualification for the intern involved.

As if that's not enough, an anonymous weirdo with insider intel is trying to sabotage my dad's company on social media...and I'm afraid it's working.

Much as I'd love to quit, I can't. Kristoffs Never Quit is our family motto. I just hope there's more than one survivor by the end of this summer.

Lisa Brown Roberts still hasn't recovered from the teenage trauma of nearly tweezing off her eyebrows and penciling them in for an entire school year. This and other painful memories inspire her to write books in which girls big on wit and heart earn happy endings with swoony guys...eventually. Her almost forever home is Colorado, though she occasionally pines for the days when she lived within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. Her house is full of books, boys, four-legged prima donnas, and lots of laughter.

Best Advice for Aspiring Authors

Here’s years of painful experience all summed up for you: don’t “aspire” for too long. I spent years and years writing in secret, reading tons of craft books, sitting in the very back row at writing conferences, but never submitting my work. I started lots of books that I never finished and squirreled away countless short stories and poems.

At one point, I became so disheartened and discouraged that I burned all my unpublished manuscripts in a fireplace. Very dramatic of me, right? I might have to use that in a book someday.

It’s terrifying to put your work out there, but if you want readers you have to do it. Honestly, it’s not easy. I spent years in a critique group with published authors who pushed me and mentored me to the point of publication. If it hadn’t been for their support, I couldn’t have done it.

I don’t have thick skin but it’s getting thicker. Bad reviews hurt, tough critiques frustrate me, and first pass edit letters from my editor make me want to hide under the covers, but when the criticism is constructive and comes from people I trust, I absolutely listen. This “thick skin” part of being a writer is difficult but necessary.

Find people farther along the path than you are, mentors who are smart, kind, and honest. Learn from them. Then someday when you’re the published author, pay it forward by helping new and aspiring writers.

I guess Yoda said it best: “Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”

(And chocolate…make sure to stock up on that, too.)

Cover Reveal: The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts

The Replacement Crush
Author: Lisa Brown Roberts
Release Date: September 6, 2016
Publisher: Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:

True love can’t be strategized.
Romance book blogger Vivian Galdi is a girl with a plan: the Replacement Crush mission. After her longtime crush pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safe targets, determined to protect her heart and avoid anyone who pings her zing meter. But nerd-hot Dallas, the new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter-mission, analyzing his target and taking advantage of the tactical errors in her strategy.

Does Dallas just like a good game of Replacement Crush Battlefield, or is he on his own mission to prove to Vivian that true love isn’t a matter of strategy? And how much collateral damage can they both sustain during the heat of battle?

Release Day Blitz + Giveaway: How (Not) To Fall In Love by Lisa Brown Roberts

How (Not) To Fall In Love
Release Date: February 3, 2015
Publisher: Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:

Finding true love on the other side of the tracks was never so much fun in this heartfelt and hilarious contemporary novel.

Seventeen-year-old Darcy Covington doesn't know the difference between a pawn shop and a thrift shop. Even her dog eats gourmet food, so she’s totally unprepared when her car is repossessed from the parking lot of her elite private school. Turns out her father, a semi-famous motivational speaker, has skipped town, abandoning his family while his business collapses. Even David Letterman comes up with ten reasons why her father won’t ever return home.

Desperate to sell her expensive jewelry for much-needed cash, Darcy discovers that her dad’s brother runs a funky thrift shop on a street full of eccentric characters, including a coffee shop owner named Liz and one supremely hot fix-it guy named Lucas.

Darcy finds some solace hanging out with her uncle and Lucas in the thrift shop and working in Liz’s coffee shop, while the rest of her life falls apart. The time she spends with the uber hot Lucas helps takes her mind off her family’s troubles, even though she’s sure he’s only nice to her because he works for her uncle, especially when she meets the cover girl beauty she thinks he’s dating.

Can Darcy find the courage she needs to adapt to the necessary changes brought about by her family’s drastically reduced lifestyle? And will she open her eyes to the amazing realization that Lucas wants much more than friendship from her?

The tray slammed down, sending cups and plates clattering. I whirled to look at him. He bent over the counter, picking up the spilled cups, his hair hiding his face.

“Are you okay, Lucas?” I didn’t know what was happening, or understand the energy rolling off of him in waves. I could practically reach out and touch it.

He ignored me as he washed dishes in the sink.

“I used to think I was in love with him,” I said, surprised by my confession. “If you can believe it.”

Lucas stilled, then straightened and turned to look at me. “I can believe it. Girls are suckers for a pretty face.”

“You would know.” Oh my God. I’d said that out loud.

And I couldn’t take it back.

He watched me silently, waiting. I turned back to the counter, scrubbing hard, wishing I could erase my words the way I erased the coffee stains.

“But you’re over him,” Lucas said from behind me.

I nodded, but didn’t turn around. “There’s not much to be over,” I muttered. “He never really knew me. And he’s not very…aware of what other people are going through.”

Unlike you, I wanted to say, but this time I kept my mouth shut.
