Review:

Red Dawn is a riveting young adult paranormal novel - the second in the Crossroads Academy series. It follows young vampire Katia and her quest to help find a cure for a blood disease that threatens to kill her friend. Katia embarks on a journey to salvage the cure for this disease and unknowingly unmasks a conspiracy larger than anyone ever knew. Besides worrying for her friends life and fighting for her own, Katia has to figure out her feelings and relationship with Nik.

Being new to the Crossroads Academy series, I instantly fell into the storyline. The plot was interesting and kept me on my toes as I rooted for Katia to overcome her struggles. I loved the character of Katia. She's a strong heroine with an anger and attitude problem and she's not afraid to show it. Underneath her hard exterior, there is deep loyalty to her friends and an uncertainty about herself that is endearing to readers. Because of these qualities, I found it easy to identify with her throughout the book.

I liked the relationship and romance between Katia and Nik. It wasn't too overdone or cheesy, which I find refreshing. It was realistic, but at times had me frustrated with Katia's character because she was just being stubborn.  The story was very well written and the action is fast paced, which made this a real page-turner for me. I got sucked into the book and ended up reading it in one sitting. I really enjoyed every aspect of this book and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
