Review:
Brightest Kind of Darkness is the first book in a young adult paranormal series that revolves around the heroine - Inara "Nara" Collins - who just happens to have the unusual gift of dreaming her future. Since an early age, Nara has dreamed every night of the coming day. Her visions have never been wrong. One day, Nara decides she must take action and calls in a tip to the police of a bomb threat to her high school. She also meets the handsome yet troubled new guy, Ethan. Before she knows it, Nara's life is turned upside down and Ethan seems to be the cause. Is she able to trust him and what is causing her dreams to disappear?
I have to admit that after reading this book, I am completely addicted to this series. It is a welcome breath of fresh air into the paranormal young adult genre. The characters in the novel, especially Nara, are flawed yet likeable - which immediately makes you feel like you've known them forever. I have never really been one to have "book boyfriend" crushes, but I think that's changed after "meeting" Ethan. His character really adds depth and intrigue into the series, and the romance between him and Nara had my toes tingling. The book is very well written and the plot is completely enchanting, which had me eagerly devouring every page. I found the concept of fighting Fate an interesting one, and the other elements that the author introduces into the plot make it all the more fascinating.
Lucid (Brightest Kind of Darkness #2)
Description:
Once Nara combines her prophetic ability with Ethan’s power to outsmart Fate at his own deadly cat-and-mouse game, she’s more determined than ever to help Ethan learn the meaning behind the raven sword tattoo that suddenly appeared on his back after their confrontation with Fate.
During her quest to uncover the tattoo’s secrets, Nara enlists the help of some new friends and discovers her own surprising connection to Ethan.
While Nara digs deeper into the mystery, her desire for answers leads her down a dangerous path full of powerful and ruthless enemies. Swept into an age-old battle, Nara quickly learns that keeping one’s enemies close can be a necessary evil, making an intangible enemy she can control far more preferable to the human enemies she can’t.

Review:
After devouring the first book in this series, I couldn't wait to dive into the second installment. Lucid picks up right where Brightest Kind of Darkness leaves off. The story flows effortlessly with the first book, so it felt like I hadn't missed a step between books. Just like the first novel, this book centers on Nara and Ethan as they continue their journey together to figure out their abilities and to battle the forces conspiring against them.
This novel was just as well written as the first, and was full of just as many twists and surprises - keeping me on my toes the entire time. Nara and Ethan's relationship develops further in this book, which I loved. The romance wasn't to syrupy or corny - like some young adult novels can be. I found it to be very sweet and swoon-worthy. The interesting plot concerning Fate and the battle that they are fighting in is very intricate and well detailed - which really drew me in and had me invested deeply in the story. I still find the concept of fighting Fate as an entity fascinating and the author definitely keeps the mystery and action charged throughout the novel. The reader is able to see obvious character growth in this second novel, and the storyline only gets more interesting as the series progresses. I will definitely be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series to be released. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal fiction that is outside the norm.
