Review:

Pretty in Black is the first book in an amazing paranormal romance series. It tells the story of Ellie Piper, a teenage girl devastated by the recent death of her sister, and Marcus Marble, a gorgeous yet mysterious guy she meets in a graveyard. Ellie and Marcus soon fall deeply in love, and everything in Ellie's world is turned completely upside down when she learns that Marcus isn't exactly alive - or human. She is soon introduced to the world of Evermores and learns that she is descended from a line of Hunters who kill Evermores - and she is the next in line. Will she risk everything, including her life, to be with the one she loves?

This is a hauntingly beautiful novel and a promising start to an exciting new series. I loved the dark and Gothic feel of everything in the story - from the characters and the setting to the plot and the history of the Evermores. Ellie is a complicated character to grows a lot in this story alone. She is at rock bottom after the murder of her sister and is at the point of taking her own life. Yet underneath it all she has real strength and courage, and above all a huge capacity for love. She is a great heroine for the series - one that is easy to like and root for. The aspect of the Evermores and that whole concept is amazingly detailed with complete different species, worlds, and rules. The depth and layers that the author put into it makes it completely enchanting and I wanted to read more about it. The plot was fast paced and the book very well-written - which made it impossible for me to put down. The romance between Ellie and Marcus was the perfect blend of hopeless romance and steamy intimacy. I definitely will be reading the rest of this series, and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here! Very highly recommended!!

Black Satin (Pretty in Black #2)

Description:

What if you weren’t who you thought you were?
What if your whole life changed in an instant and you were released to a new identity?
What if you were forced to kill the one you love?
What if everything you knew wasn’t real, and you awaken to a new world?
What if love could take you to unknown places? How beautiful is death really?

Marcus Marble has disappeared from Ellie’s life, and she needs answers to questions and he’s the only one who can answer them. How is her sister back from the dead, and why is Ellie still alive?

When Ellie realizes Marcus isn’t coming back, she is forced to move on with her life the best way she can, in hopes of finding the answers herself, but when people at school begin to be viciously murdered, and Giles reveals to her a life changing secret, she decides to investigate the possible truth of it. What she discovers is more than she thought she would. The only time Ellie feels normal is when she’s around Walter, the new guy at school. And normal is how she wants to feel, now that Marcus is gone from her life.

But Walter may not be all that he seems, either, and she just might spiral in to an even more dark world, she never thought possible. And when it occurs to her that Marcus has made the decision to pass on through to the afterlife, during the Risorgimento, she races against time to stop him, while knowing she has feelings for Walter, too.

Will she make it in time to stop Marcus from passing through, and if she does, what will she tell Walter? Her heart will have to make the final decision. But will the choice be worth dying for?

Review:

Black Satin is the second book in the Pretty in Black series that follows Ellie Piper and Marcus Marble. In this book, Marcus seemingly disappears from Ellie's life, leaving her devastated. On top of dealing with a broken heart, girls from her school are starting to be viciously murdered and the culprit is coming for her next. Ellie has some huge revelations in this novel that completely change her life. She finally comes to terms with her destiny and must decide which path she will choose.

Just like the first book in this series, Black Satin is an enchanting story about a love that transcends everything - including time and death. I have to admit that I'm a hopeless romantic, so when Marcus seemingly leaves Ellie and breaks her heart; I was pretty upset. I was practically holding my breath the entire book to see what would become of their relationship. On top of that, Ellie learns new things about herself, which causes some serious character growth. New characters are introduced into the series, which keeps things interesting - especially the arrival of Walter, who just happens to fall for Ellie. The Evermores and their world are even more detailed and intricate in this book, which only fueled my fascination of them. I loved how in depth the author made their world and history - it's really unique and different from anything else out there. There's a lot more action in this book, which makes it very fast paced and hard to put down. I tore through the novel to see how things were going to play out and praying for the outcome that I wanted. The romance continues to be incredibly sweet with super steamy moments - which I feel is a perfect blend. I am dying to read the next book in the series to learn more about the Evermores and their world and to see how things will turn out. I very highly recommend this series!
