Shallow is
the second book in a new adult/young adult contemporary series. It revolves around Nick Hawkes, who has had a way with the ladies for as long as he can remember. Getting a girl has never been an issue for him, at least until he meets Payton Archer - a seemingly perfect
rich girl who appears to have a perfect life. Against the odds and the advice of those around them, they
have a strong connection that they can't ignore. Will Payton rock the
boat of her perfect life to see what's between Nick and her? Will the one person who seems to be so wrong, turn out to be the only one who's right for her?
I normally don't read contemporary romance novels, but I'm glad I continued reading this series. It's very well-written and has a completely believable (and romantic) storyline. The characters are easy to identify with and I immediately felt like I knew them all on a personal level - which only made me root for them and empathize with them all the more. Payton and Nick's story reads like a classic tale of doomed lovers - they are from opposite sides of the tracks and they have completely different lives, yet there is something that brings them together. This novel was beautifully written and told in a way that really brought me into the story. Just like in the first book of the series, the romance was very steamy and really vivid - there was some gooey romantic things, but it was perfect for the story and only made it better. *SIGH* This is a great contemporary romance and a terrific second installment in an awesome series by a talented author - highly recommended!
