Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.
Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.
But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius's ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.
Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn't expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.
Can she save the colony and discover her true love?
“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise...Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity
Andromeda has been living aboard the New Dawn her entire life. She's used to it - she likes it that way. That's part of the reason she is so hesitant to start a new life on Paradise 21 - her new planet. Andromeda fails her colonization tests and is sent to serve a menial life on the new planet with her lifemate - Corvus, "the oaf." But soon after setting foot on the planet, alien ghosts begin haunting Andromeda with warnings that her people are in danger. Her best friend and the guy she is secretly in love with, goes to investigate - only to crash his ship. Andromeda and "the oaf" set out to rescue him and possibly them all. Will they get there in time? Will Andromeda fulfill her destiny and save her people?
Colonization is the first book in a new young adult science fiction/dystopian series that follows the life of the teenage main character - Andromeda - and her adventure of starting a new life and a new colony on an unknown planet. The background story throughout the novel is very detailed and unique, which I thought added a lot of originality and made the book really interesting. The characters are all likable and easy to identify with, especially Andromeda and Sirius. I found myself rooting for them early on in the book and was anxious to see how their story would play out. The book is well written and fast paced, which made it an exciting and fast read. I thought that the romance was well done - not too mushy or corny - and with just the right amount of sizzle. There was plenty of action, adventure, suspense, and mystery woven into the storyline, which gave the book tons of layers and made it much more interesting. This is a well done first novel in a promising new dystopian series that readers are sure to love.
