Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Release Date: January 8, 2012

Description:

When Jess steals a glance at a gorgeous guy in a Manchester nightclub, little does she realise how he is going to change her life…or should that be death? Yet, the vampire clan could never have predicted what they were taking on.

With Luke pronounced ‘off-limits’ and the blood of a vampire simmering in Jess’s body, can she forget the love of her life and move on? If not, she will risk exposing the entire Northern vampire clan to untold dangers, in order to live her life the way she wants.

Can Jess be sure that Luke is all he appears to be? Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel? And why does she still crave a packet of crisps more than a tasty teenage boy’s blood?

Witchblood is the first book in a young adult paranormal romance series that follows Jessica - "Jess" - as her world is violently ripped away and replaced with one of a vampire. When Jess awakens to find herself no longer human, but a vampire - things go from bad to worse. All Jess wants is for things to go back to normal so she can be with her true love - Luke. When Daniel, her gorgeous maker, forbids her to go near Luke, Jess threatens to expose the entire vampire clan. On top of all her new feelings and adjusting to life as a vampire, Jess must resist the pull she feels for Daniel, while figuring out a way to be with Luke.

This was a fun, if somewhat cheesy, vampire book. The characters are pretty shallow, with little character growth throughout the novel. Jess is your typical teenage girl - she's stubborn and demands to get her way. Things don't change when she dies and becomes a vampire. Of course her maker, Daniel, is gorgeous and mysterious - and Jess must resist his charms. None of this plot or the concepts are new to the genre, but it wasn't intended to be groundbreaking - just pure entertainment. Although I found most of the content to be cliched and stereotypical, I enjoyed being able to kick back and enjoy myself among the campy dialogue and funny situations. This series promises to be an interesting ride with an enjoyable plot and fun characters - although I'm holding out hope that the second installment will gain depth and more layered characters and situations. Recommended for fans of YA vampire fiction and those looking for a light, fun read.

Hi I'm Emma. I am happily married with two lovely children. I have always loved reading and writing and published my first novel WitchBlood in Jan 2012 with Witchcraft following in June and WitchLove due in Feb 2013. After acquiring an obsessive love of supernatural teen novels...yes I'm a Twilight fan...I decided to write my own supernatural story based here in Manchester in the UK, near where I live and grew up. It's currently dark, windy, cold and very very wet... and easy to get inspiration.
