Night Chill is a chilling adult supernatural thriller novel that follows our main character, Jack Tremont, as he adjusts to his new life in a small town with his family. Things are going great until he is given a disturbing warning concerning his youngest daughter Sarah. The warning turns out to be true - Sarah has been targeted by Nate Huckley - a sinister man who takes his orders from an evil power. Sarah goes missing and the entire town suspects that Jack is at fault. It's up to him to uncover the truth about the town of Prescott City, and just how far the reaches of this conspiracy go, if he has any chance of saving Sarah before it's too late.

This was an interesting and original supernatural thriller that keeps the reader guessing until the end. The characters were all well written - especially the main character of Jack and his nemesis Nate. They show strengths, weaknesses, and flaws, which made them realistic to me as a reader. The story is told from varying viewpoints - that of Jack and of Nate. I liked that the author presented the story in this way because we get to see into the minds of both the hero and the villain throughout the book and see what they're each thinking. It definitely adds a unique twist to the narrative that most others don't possess. The writing was well done with short chapters that keep the reader engaged throughout the book. For some unknown reason, I wasn't sucked into the story like I normally am. It made reading the book a bit distracting because I could feel my mind wandering a bit and not really feeling connected to the story. This is has nothing to do with the book or writing - just something didn't click with me on a deeper level. It's a fantastic thriller with lots of twists and turns that you won't see coming and the mystery will keep you guessing until the end. Recommended for fans of mystery and thriller novels.
In addition to writing supernatural thrillers for adults, Jeff Gunhus is also the author of the Middle Grade/YA series The Templar Chronicles. (www.jacktemplar.com) The first book, Jack Templar Monster Hunter, was written in an effort to get his reluctant reader eleven-year old son excited about reading. It worked and a new series was born and recognized as a 2012 Forward Reviews Book of the Year Finalist. Jeff has been a Stephen King and Dean Koontz fan since he was a kid reading their novels under the covers at night. Seeing Night Chill next to King and Koontz on the Amazon Bestseller lists has been a surreal experience. He leads an active lifestyle in Maryland with his wife Nicole and five incredible kids. In rare moments of quiet, he can be found in the back of the City Dock Cafe in Annapolis working on his next novel.
