Echoes (The Dolphin Prophecy #2)
Author: Amy Evans
Genre: YA Paranormal
Release Date: July 3, 2014
Description:
Echoes are the sounds the universe makes when you ignore it the first time.
Instead of signs, they are sirens. Echoes are louder and more dangerous than Clicks.
All the twins on Pinhold Island are healthy again, but the summer is still upside down. Cami's been paying better attention to what hides beneath the surface on her seemingly idyllic home, trying to make sense of the new threats to her friends and family. Massive storms have come to Pinhold, flooding the Island in a way not seen in generations. They leave behind destruction and the Red Tide, which lends the Island an eerie glow, makes the air itch and people's eyes burn. Through it all, Cami and Blake are working hard to repair their relationship, Mica is attempting to trust the grown ups on island, Shay is worried she'll never swim again and everyone is tying to re-focus on the Surf Carnival and training for The Guard.
But the threats to Pinhold from the sky don't compare to the danger that still hides beneath the waves. Can Cami and The Guard find the cause in time to reset the pin, or will they suffer damages that can never be reversed?

I could feel his heart pound under my ear. It sounded strong, but I could feel the worry coming with every beat. He’d moved away from the jealousy that had fueled his drumming, and now he just hated every single second I spent with Kaleb in my thoughts. I could see inside him, the way the blood actually tripped up, choking into the sharp corners of his veins instead of flowing evenly.
“See what you do to me?” he asked, voice rough, strained. He was in my head and knew I understood. I felt gratitude for this level of connection, but the way that I could just know something so complicated that went way beyond what either one of us could explain.
“We were born for this,” I said, my voice was filled with awe. This connection went so far beyond the clicks I had with my friends, my dolphin, even Mica. At that moment, Blake could read my soul.
“Yessss,” he hissed. “That’s what I need. It makes me strong.” He brushed his lips against me, a kissper that hinted at more. I didn’t have a single brain cell left for anything but him and the promise of that kiss. My lips touched his almost reverently, slowly. Our connection was gossamer, and I imagined it disappearing if I pressed too hard too soon.
I looked at him, eyes wide; barely able to keep myself together with the way I shook in his arms. I wanted to hide a bit of myself from him, but I couldn’t. I had no place to go to pull away. My only option was to get closer, to give more. I pushed away the fear, the layers of human protection my rational side thought I needed, and let him in even more. I expected to lose pieces of myself, being that open, but instead I gained. Little bits of him attached magnetically, bonding to each cell, clicking into a place that fit him, and only him perfectly.
My ribs split open to let him in because there wasn't room for air. Every breath became a strain until I figured out that instead of oxygen, I needed him. He nodded, and I put my mouth on his. It was like our first kiss all over again.
