Echoes Blog Tour: Excerpt + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the ECHOES blog tour! Today I have an excerpt from the book to share with you - and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Echoes (The Dolphin Prophecy #2)
Author: Amy Evans
Genre: YA Paranormal
Release Date: July 3, 2014

Description:

Echoes are the sounds the universe makes when you ignore it the first time.

Instead of signs, they are sirens. Echoes are louder and more dangerous than Clicks.

All the twins on Pinhold Island are healthy again, but the summer is still upside down. Cami's been paying better attention to what hides beneath the surface on her seemingly idyllic home, trying to make sense of the new threats to her friends and family. Massive storms have come to Pinhold, flooding the Island in a way not seen in generations. They leave behind destruction and the Red Tide, which lends the Island an eerie glow, makes the air itch and people's eyes burn. Through it all, Cami and Blake are working hard to repair their relationship, Mica is attempting to trust the grown ups on island, Shay is worried she'll never swim again and everyone is tying to re-focus on the Surf Carnival and training for The Guard.

But the threats to Pinhold from the sky don't compare to the danger that still hides beneath the waves. Can Cami and The Guard find the cause in time to reset the pin, or will they suffer damages that can never be reversed?

“I only want you. All of you Cami,” he said, gathering me to him and pressing my head against his chest.

I could feel his heart pound under my ear. It sounded strong, but I could feel the worry coming with every beat. He’d moved away from the jealousy that had fueled his drumming, and now he just hated every single second I spent with Kaleb in my thoughts. I could see inside him, the way the blood actually tripped up, choking into the sharp corners of his veins instead of flowing evenly.

“See what you do to me?” he asked, voice rough, strained. He was in my head and knew I understood. I felt gratitude for this level of connection, but the way that I could just know something so complicated that went way beyond what either one of us could explain.

“We were born for this,” I said, my voice was filled with awe. This connection went so far beyond the clicks I had with my friends, my dolphin, even Mica. At that moment, Blake could read my soul.

“Yessss,” he hissed. “That’s what I need. It makes me strong.” He brushed his lips against me, a kissper that hinted at more. I didn’t have a single brain cell left for anything but him and the promise of that kiss. My lips touched his almost reverently, slowly. Our connection was gossamer, and I imagined it disappearing if I pressed too hard too soon.

I looked at him, eyes wide; barely able to keep myself together with the way I shook in his arms. I wanted to hide a bit of myself from him, but I couldn’t. I had no place to go to pull away. My only option was to get closer, to give more. I pushed away the fear, the layers of human protection my rational side thought I needed, and let him in even more. I expected to lose pieces of myself, being that open, but instead I gained. Little bits of him attached magnetically, bonding to each cell, clicking into a place that fit him, and only him perfectly.

My ribs split open to let him in because there wasn't room for air. Every breath became a strain until I figured out that instead of oxygen, I needed him. He nodded, and I put my mouth on his. It was like our first kiss all over again.

I am so excited to share the new cover in Amy Evan’s series, The Dolphin Prophecy!!! And I have an awesome excerpt and giveaway!!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000030_00050]
 Breaks (The Dolphin Prophecy #3)
Author: Amy Evans
Expected Release Date: September 9, 2014
Cover Design by Regina Wamba

Synopsis:

When the CLICKS and ECHOES have all been ignored, and the universe can take it no more, the pressure builds below the surface until everything breaks.   Cami’s invitation to the elite Australian Surf Carnival is a dream come true, but it’s causing tension with Blake, her parents, and her community. Her relationships feel as broken and unsteady as their island home where the pin swims below the water’s surface, symbolizing a total lack of safety and balance. The Elders in The Guard fear for their new generation, so they send Mica and the other twins away with Cami. It maybe for everyone’s protection, but Cami’s angry to not get to break away on her own.   On the other side of the ocean, they stay with the fifth set of twins who moved away when they were little, and learn more about the mysteries surrounding their ancestors and previous island homes. When the threats that they faced on Pinhold follow, Cami must trust her instincts to get the secrets from her past and present that are needed to protect her future. If she fails, the breaks will keep getting worse until everywhere on Earth is damaged in a way that can never be reversed.

BREAKS is the third book in The Dolphin Prophecy series.

CLICKS is available for free and ECHOES is brand new and on sale for 99 cents for a very short time.
Sailors call them breaks, those moments when races turn around, when a crazy gust of wind comes along and whip changes your course. Sometimes it's for better, sometimes it's for worse. But the only way to know is to race with the break and see where it goes. This letter was my break. It was the one opportunity is always wanted, my best chance to test myself, to do something on my own. I'd worked my tail off for this and the note offered it right up to me exactly as I'd hoped. A competition spot in the Elite International Surf Carnival on the Gold Coast of Australia. This was my dream come true. And the perfect break exactly when I needed one. But as I looked around the room I knew. I just knew. From the looks on their faces I could tell they weren't going to let me go. Just then Blake pushed open the door with a happy energy I hadn't seen in weeks. He held a paper in his palm as well. That made sense considering mail only got to us once a week at most right now. But the coincidence put a bad lump in my throat. From across the room I recognized the seal of the National Swim Team and knew it was a tryout invitation. From the look on his face I knew he was going to get to go. And in that moment I hated him for it. Blake would get a break he never even wanted. While I had to put aside my dream for a stupid prophecy that just had to go ahead and come true.

Welcome to my stop on the Clicks blog tour! Today I'll be sharing a guest post by the author and don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page to enter in the tour wide giveaway!

Clicks
Author: Amy Evans
Genre: YA Contemporary
Release Date: June 18, 2013

Description:

Clicks – When you just know.

Born and bred to win, Cami’s family expects her to join a secret society called The Guard, marry one of the two identical twin boys next door, and stay on Pinhold Island for the rest of her life. Home to perfect waves, black sand beaches, and the world-famous Surf Carnival, Pinhold seems deceptively perfect. While visitors are jealous of the few hundred people who get to live there, Cami feels stifled. Thanks to the intense link she shares with her own twin, Mica, she can't even be alone with her thoughts. While Cami's more than happy to be a lifeguard, a lifelong commitment to the endless summer feels like a trap.

As decendents of the ten families who originally settled on the Island, Cami and Mica are part of a new generation, the most perfect example of what nature and time can create. This summer was their time to prove that the years of training have paid off, but it's not going as planned. It's suddenly impossible for Cami to resist the magnetic attraction between her and Blake, one of the twins next door. Just as the Surf Carnival competition starts to heat up, the best swimmers start going down. Something is pulling them to the ocean floor where they wind up in comas and can't be woken up. When Mica goes down too, Cami can no longer wait for those in charge to figure out how to help him.

With her twin link silenced, the clicks that she used to get from her brother start coming from somewhere else. Can she trust her instincts and learn to listen in enough time to save her friends, or will she lose them along with her island home?

Who are five writers who inspire you?

An interesting question to ask – it’s nothing at all like “what’s your favorite book?’ I’ll mention J.K. Rowling and Suzanne Collins quickly and together, for drawing an entire generation into book and for bringing back strong YA heroines, respectively. Both made me feel the need to write to follow the paths they created. But the others on this list are writers I strive to emulate every day for reasons that go far and above the stories in their books.

Judy Blume – For me and so many women and writers I know, her voice narrated my story growing up. In fact, one of my favorite books is “Everything I know about being a girl I learned from Judy Blume.” It’s full of fabulous essays by incredible writers who talk about how specific books influenced them and each example resonated with me. And it just tickles me to no end to see my daughter reading them. One day last year she told me for the first time that she loved, loved, loved. She had just finished Super Fudge, her first Judy Blume.

John Green writes with intense humanity and yanks compassion from readers with every word. His subject matter is often difficult but he makes it possible to get through it and come out the other end feeling better for having read the book. He continues those difficult and interesting conversations by engaging readers over multiple platforms, and pulls his fans together to do really good work. I’m definitely feeling My favorite title of his is Will Grayson, will grayson, the collaboration he did with David Levithan who is next on my list.

David Levithan’s work is always so earnest and enjoyable and yet, every novel of his that I have read has successfully changed my personal perspective on the subject matter. BOY MEETS BOY was the novel that made me realize love is love is love. In all the right ways, it was exactly like every other contemporary romance I read except for the lack of Y-chromosomes and that was truly eye opening. He also has the day job to end all day jobs with Scholastic and everyone I know lucky enough to work with him there says he’s amazing in that job as well. I especially love his collaborations and how each time he chooses a new writing partner, the reading experience is vastly different.

L.J. Smith – Best known for The Vampire Diaries series, this writer goes on the top of my list because of The Secret Circle Series about witches. I read the books well over ten years ago and I can still remember the wish that Cassie makes in the opening: “Sky and sea keep harm from me, earth and fire bring my desire.” It’s such a deceptively simple prayer that’s come to mind so often when I’ve needed just the right thing to say. I hope that I can slip comfort and meaning in even the most entertaining stories. The fact that I’ve held onto the phrase for so many years is truly inspiring.
