Description:

Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.

Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

Everything Under the Sun was yet another wonderful novel by Jessica Redmerski. I've read several of her other books and I've loved each one. She has the ability to really bring the characters to life and make you feel so connected to them. I rarely have physical reactions (like crying) while reading, but I have definitely cried while reading some of hers - which is saying something. This book was just as fantastic and well written as the rest and readers need to get their hands on a copy.

Everything about this story was incredibly well done - from the characters to the detailed setting and the intricate plot. I immediately identified with both main characters right from the beginning. I loved getting to know both Thais and Atticus on a personal level and watching them fall in love was so sweet. One major plus for me was that the author used the first person for both Thais and Atticus. The chapters are written alternatively in each of their viewpoints, which really allows the reader to connect with the characters and to get the full story as seen from each narrator's side. It's one of my favorite writing styles and I think it's perfect for the book.

The setting was completely different from anything else I'd read of the authors, but she was able to bring this post-apocalyptic world to life right in front of my eyes and make me feel like I was there alongside Thais and Atticus as everything happened. I loved the mix of science fiction and romance, even though I'm not normally a big fan of romance stories. I thought it made the story better, instead of taking away from it like some other novels do. Overall, this was another fantastic book by a wonderful author and I highly recommend it to readers of all genres.
