She was a stranger who kissed him in the middle of the train station, and now she’s the girl who pleads with her eyes for Krister to be the distraction she’s so desperate for. The collision that can’t be avoided…

Cambria doesn’t know who Krister is—that he’s the son of the town’s most infamous killer, and he knows if his true identity surfaces he’ll lose her forever. However secrets can’t stay buried forever, and now Krister must fight to prove that their bone-deep connection is far more powerful than the hatred she now has toward him.

“So,” she says, slowly pulling her hand away, “what’s your reason? For always being here?”

I shrug. “I like to watch people. It’s sort of a stupid, little game I play trying to guess what they’re thinking.” I point to a large, suit-clad man dangling a briefcase at his side near the bottom of the stairs. “Like him. He’d rather be sitting in a sports bar watching the Broncos game instead of going to his next meeting.” My fingertip runs up a few steps to a twenty-something woman with a whining toddler in tow. “And she’s regretting the one-night stand she had on graduation night.” Cam giggles, and then I aim my finger at her shoulder. “And this one…” I shake my head. “Yeah, I haven’t quite figured this one out yet.” My hand falls to my lap, and immediately she picks it back up and points it at her, a slight tilt to her head. Even though she is so small, I am very aware of her. Of the way her hair drapes over her shoulder and brushes against her leg. Of the sweet scent that hits me every time she shifts her arms. Of the small strip of milky-white skin peeking out as her shirt rides up on her back a bit.

This one,” she says quietly, gripping my hand tighter, “hasn’t figured herself out, either. She was having a horrible day, and then she saw this cute guy—who she once called a creep and feels really awful about.” Another flush of pink tints her cheeks. Damn, she’s kind of adorable when she’s embarrassed. “She thought she should apologize, so she did, but then as she sat beside him, she started to notice how piercing his eyes were and straight his teeth were, and”—she giggles—“now she’s rambling like an idiot.”

“I don’t mind,” I say with a grin. I don’t expect her to keep going, but she does, her voice lower and a bit shaky as if talking to strangers isn’t something she does often.

“Good, because what she’s really trying to say is that…” Her thumb traces my knuckles. “…for some reason all she can think about is if it’s too soon to make a move on that cute guy because she could really use something to take her mind off her day and make her feel good for even a second.”

Her hand stills. She looks at me. I look at her. Is she serious?

Exclusive Excerpt:

She stares at me, tracing her finger over my face, my eyebrows, the two-day-old stubble on my jaw. I catch her hand and kiss her knuckles, then wrist. “It’s just…” Jesus, how do I say this? “My life’s a little complicated right now, and I’m trying not to drag you into the middle of it.” The look she gives me is one I’m starting to recognize. The one that makes it seem like she understands there’s something more I want to tell her, but can’t. Or don’t know how. “On top of that…I’m a dickhead. And being with me will ultimately result in me hurting you, and I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Actually…” She lowers my palm to her thigh, narrowing her gaze onto mine. “…you being concerned about hurting me is very non-dickhead-ish of you.” Little by little, she slides my hand up her leg and around her ass. “Besides, what if I want to be in the middle of it?”

I slam my eyes shut, my fingers burning at the touch of her. She doesn’t know what she’s asking for. Being with me—being constantly reminded of her dead mother—will slowly but surely kill her inside. And I’m not a murderer like my father.

Fragile Line
Author: Brooklyn Skye
Genre: YA Contemporary/Mystery
Release Date: April 1, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Teen

Description:

It can happen in a flash. One minute she’s kissing her boyfriend, the next she’s lost in the woods. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Cox is losing time. It started out small…forgetting a drive home or a conversation with a friend. But her blackouts are getting worse, more difficult to disguise as forgetfulness. When Ellie goes missing for three days, waking up in the apartment of a mysterious guy—a guy who is definitely not her boyfriend, her life starts to spiral out of control.

Perched on the edge of insanity, with horrific memories of her childhood leaking in, Ellie struggles to put together the pieces of what she’s lost—starting with the name haunting her, Gwen. Heartbreakingly beautiful, this poignant story follows one girl’s harrowing journey to finding out who she really is.

Fragile Line is a unique and compelling young adult novel that blends an intense mystery alongside realistic fiction dealing with mental health issues. The book follows our heroine, Elizabeth "Ellie" Cox, who has been experiencing blackouts - chunks of missing time and memories - for the majority of her life. Normally they were small things like going to bed at night or doing a project at school. Now the blackouts are coming on stronger and closer together. Ellie's starting to lose critical time periods - hours and eventually even days - and she has no idea what has happened. She wakes one morning to find that she got a tattoo sometime the previous day, but she has no memory of it at all. Worse yet, she disappears for three days straight and wakes up in a random guy's apartment with absolutely no idea of how she got there or what had happened while she was gone. With her blackouts causing serious problems in her life, along with fragments of memories from her childhood and evidence of her doing things she never would do, Ellie must decide whether to keep hiding from her secrets and her past - or she must confront them head on and learn the heartbreaking truth of what happened to her when she was young as well as what the blackouts really are.

I found this novel to be a fantastic blend of realistic contemporary fiction and a powerful mystery. All aspects of the story line had me completely engrossed in the book and I couldn't stop reading until I found out what was really happening to Ellie and why. The way that the author wrote about Ellie's problems and eventually her disorder was great - it was woven into the mystery and the plot of the story - giving the reader a better understanding of a serious mental illness without sounding boring or clinical. Adding in the mystery behind the blackouts and Ellie's determination to discover the truth really brought the plot to a deeper level, and I felt that everything flowed together in a seamless way to create a riveting novel. The characters were well written, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, flaws and problems - which I thought made them easy to identify with as a reader. Ellie was a wonderful main character for the story. She's smart, determined, a devoted daughter, sister and friend, but she's also broken, scared, and scarred by her past. I found it very interesting that the story was divided into different parts told from either Ellie's or Gwen's point of view. I think it gives the reader an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes for the characters and helps to know each one on a more personal level. The plot was perfectly crafted with the mystery weaving into the mental health issues and to deeper topics such as family, love, truth, and facing your fears. I found the mystery aspect to be fantastic and I was completely at a loss for the first portion of the book as to what was happening. After I realized the truth, the strange occurrences and issues that Ellie dealt with and tried to understand made complete sense and I enjoyed learning the complete truth about it all right alongside her. Overall, this is a magnificent book that mixes genres to create an original novel of realistic fiction and mystery. Highly recommended for fans of YA contemporary fiction and those who enjoy mysteries.

Cover Reveal: Without You by Brooklyn Skye

Without You (Stripped #1.5)
Author: Brooklyn Skye
Expected Release Date: October 22, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Novella

Summary from Goodreads:

*A novella to the best-selling New Adult novel STRIPPED*

I’m the knight on the white horse in her eyes, the one who broke down her defenses after her sister’s death until she realized she was capable of love. To her—aside from my name, Torrin Kingsley—I’m perfect.

But there’s a sliver of my past I’ve never shared with her. One that is now haunting me with every breath I take. One she is starting to raise her brow to.

I’m not certain how much longer I can keep it from her. To be honest, I don’t know that it would make a difference anyway, because it seems no matter which path I choose, they all lead to the same end point. A place without Quinn.

My demons run bone deep. I guess burying them forever wasn’t possible.

Stripped Blog Tour: Excerpt & Giveaway

Stripped

Author: Brooklyn Skye
Genre: YA/New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 14, 2013

Buy Link: Amazon

Description:

“I like you.” His voice is low and soft, which I don’t deserve. I look away, down the rutted parking lot.
“Don’t... waste those words on me.”
He touches my cheek. “You just need someone to show you.”
“No.” I ease back again. “I don’t. So please, Torrin, stop trying to swoop in and save me. I don’t need saving.”

College freshman Quinn Montgomery will do anything to avoid the mistake her sister made—killing herself over a boy. But when she is forced into nude modeling at a local college to support her family after a bankruptcy, she begins to crack, just enough to let Torrin, the university’s top varsity oarsman, see that the real Quinn is not as feisty and unapproachable as she wants everyone to think. But letting someone in comes at a steep cost and, it turns out, Torrin is connected to Quinn’s family in more ways than she could ever imagine.

Chapter One

His lips don’t look like mine feel. Like they’re dying. Dead.
It’s creepy, I know, staring at this old guy’s lips, but I can’t help it. They’re so…animated. Full of life. And then they start to move again and I think he’s going to say the words, “You’re hired,” because those words I’m expecting, but they don’t come.
Why? Because I’m expecting them and whenever
I do that—
I need to stop doing that.
“Our requirements are fairly basic,” Mr. Hunter says, “and you meet them both. You own a bathrobe.” One of his fingers ticks up. His wrist is resting on the desk and he looks like one of those people who count things off on their fingers because it’s easier to sort information if you can count it on your fingers. “And you’re willing to take it off.” Second finger.
I should’ve expected Zoe to die because then she wouldn’t have. Then I wouldn’t be standing here in the middle of this dumpy classroom Mr. Hunter calls his office. Students linger past the opened door and I try not to look at their faces because it’s their faces that’ll remind me this job isn’t one of my better ideas.
“Any preference on times?” the man asks. His lips move with such ease my eyes surrender to them again.
“After three would be best.”
He consults his schedule, gnawing on the end of his pencil.
“Normally I save the more experienced models to deal with the freshmen, but I’m afraid I don’t have a choice. The others can’t stay past two. How ’bout three to five on Tuesdays and Thursdays?”
I wipe my hands on my jeans to keep from touching my mouth.
“Sure.”
Hunter nods.
“That’s all for now, Quinn. Here’s the employ-ment application. Fill it out and, if possible, I could use you tomorrow.”
I take the packet from his paint-spattered hands and force a smile. It isn’t easy; dying lips don’t smile. But I hold this smile all the way to the bus stop, and then as I sit on the grimy seat watching the late afternoon sun glint off every storefront window in such a sad way that it hurts to look at. I get off the bus and hold this dead smile for each of the one hundred thirty-seven steps to Garrett Hall when suddenly a finger jabs into my stomach.
“Wouldn’t it be great,” Derek says, his putrid beer-breath in my ear, “if guys could just poke a girl to let her know he wanted to fuck her?” His words echo down the empty hall. I shove his scrawny hand away.
“Girls would never fall for that.”
He pokes me again. “Hot girls would.”
“Too bad you don’t have one of those.” I try to step around him, but he grabs my sleeve and presses his skinny body into mine.
“I’ve seen you naked,” he says, glazed eyes sliding over my face. Would it kill him to wait until after dinner to get wasted?
Icy fingers slip beneath the hem of my sweatshirt, tracing a line up to the edge of my bra. “You’re a guy’s wet dream under all this,” he says. Then he pokes me again.
“Derek…” I lean in close to him, moving my lips up to his ear, resisting the urge to knee him in the balls. “If you jab your finger into my side again, I swear I will punch you in the face.”
Chest rumbling with a laugh, he wraps his arm around my waist and drags me toward his room. “C’mon, Feisty Girl. I’ll show you my favorite kind of poking.”
Along with questions of where I’ve been for the last hour, so no thanks. A few feet across the Com-mons, I grind my feet to a stop. “Not right now, okay? I’m not feeling so great.”
Slowly, his hand slides up to the nape of my neck, squeezes and pushes me closer to the hallway.
“You’re in luck—something I can fix.” Please.
A group of guys emerge from the hall just as I spin out of his grip and say, “I’m going to my room.”
Derek stiffens, red creeping up his neck. A mo-ment passes. The guys slow their pace, taking in the two of us. Derek releases a huff, sounding more like a thirteen-year-old girl than a college freshman.
“Whatever, Quinn,” he spits out for the purpose of his buddies, I’m sure. “Call me when you feel well enough to act like my girlfriend.”
I turn for the girls’ hall, biting back a smile. That will be never.
