Description:

A terror with no answer needs a girl with no limits.

I am the daughter of the first female POTUS, and today is about to become the longest day of my life…

24 hours—that’s how much time I have to save my mother before terrorists assassinate her. But now my father and brother are missing, too. This goes deeper than anyone thinks. Only someone on the inside would know how to pull this off—how to make the entire First Family disappear.

I can’t trust anyone, so it’s up to me to uncover the conspiracy and stop these madmen. Because little do they know, they picked the wrong person to terrorize.

My name is Sophie Washington, and I will not be a victim. No one, I repeat no one, is taking me or my family down. But the clock is ticking…

T-Minus is an exciting new young adult thriller that will have readers on the edge of their seats the whole time. To me, this wasn't a wholly unique concept or plot line, but the author put her own touches into the story to make it stand apart from others out there. I'm a huge fan of this genre, so I was definitely excited to read this one. I was hoping for suspense, excitement, and some twists - and that was exactly what I got.

I really liked the main character, Sophie. She's the teenage daughter of the first female president and she's one tough cookie. She's part of a CIA program that trains teens in tactical skills, weapons, fighting, and lots more. So she's basically badass and not someone you want to mess with. She has her flaws which make her more realistic and easy to connect with. She loves her family and is wholly devoted to them. When things start to happen and her family is put in danger, she takes action and goes on the offensive. She's smart, determined, skilled, and strong. The author used the first person point of view to tell the story - from Sophie's perspective. I'm so happy that she used this writing style because it's my favorite and lets the reader develop a deeper more personal relationship with the narrator. That was definitely the case with Sophie and this story. I loved getting to know her throughout the story, to see her strengths and weaknesses, and to witness her relationships with the people in her life. It was fascinating and added a new depth to the book that wouldn't have been possible with any other writing style.

Overall, this was a good book with an interesting plot and solid characters. I also really liked how you could feel the tension amping up as the story goes on and time is running out. It made things a lot more exciting for me and was a definite plus. I'd recommend this novel for fans of YA, thrillers, mysteries, contemporary, and suspense.
Things you should know about me: I write novels! Some have won awards. Others have been bestsellers. Under Shannon Greenland (my real name) you’ll find spies, adventure, and romantic suspense. Under S. E. Green (my pen) you’ll find dark and gritty fiction about serial killers, cults, secret societies that do bad things, and whatever else my twisted brain deems to dream up. I’m on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. I also have a website and a very non-annoying newsletter where you can keep up to date with new releases, free stuff, and my mild ramblings about my travels. I have a very old and grouchy dog. But I love him. My humor runs dark and so don’t be offended by something off I might say. I mean no harm. I live in a small Florida beach town, but I’m most often found exploring the world. I eat entirely too many chips. I also love math!

Watching You Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway

Watching You
Author: Shannon Greenland

Genre: YA Thriller
Publication Date: July 2, 2018

Publisher: Entangled Publishing

Description:

Viola’s always been that girl from that family, so a scholarship to a prestigious private school in Florida was supposed to be her ticket out of poverty and into a brand-new life. But Viola’s secrets have followed her. Her relationship with the intelligent and gorgeous Riel should have been the salvation she needed—he understands her troubled past better than anyone. But then weird things start to happen.

Frightening messages.

Missing personal items.

The unsettling feeling that she’s being watched.

Viola’s never been one to give her trust easily, but she’ll need to trust in Riel if she’s going to survive her stalker. Because she’s not fighting for a new life anymore—she’s fighting to stay alive.

Watching You is a taut new young adult thriller that will leave readers guessing until the very end. Thrillers are one of my favorite genres, so I read them constantly. It seems to take more to catch me off guard now and when it happens, it's always a great surprise. This book did just that. There were quite a few twists and turns, some red herrings, and the suspense kept ramping up the further the story went. It seemed like once I had a theory in mind, something would happen to complete shatter it and then I'd have to start completely over. Don't get me wrong - these are fantastic things and I'm so happy when they happen!

I really enjoyed pretty much everything about the book. The characters were realistic and easy to relate to - especially our main character, Viola. The author tells the story from Viola's point of view, so we get to know her on a deeply personal level throughout the story. I liked getting to know everything about her - from her history back home to her hopes and dreams for the future, and (of course!) the whole romance aspect with Riel. I'm not one who normally does the whole book boyfriend thing, but if I did - Riel would definitely be at the top of my list. He's dreamy right from the start and only continues to get better as the story progresses. I enjoyed watching Viola's relationship with him grow and I liked swooning over him a bit myself. The plot was interesting and suspenseful - which meant I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. It keeps you on your toes and guessing - especially with the little 'bonus' chapters that are written by the stalker. I loved that the author added those in. I think they were a huge plus for the book and made things feel even more creepy. I definitely recommend this novel for fans of thrillers, mysteries, suspense, contemporary, and romance.

Book Blitz + Giveaway: Shadow of a Girl by Shannon Greenland

Shadow of a Girl
Author: Shannon Greenland
Genre: YA Romance
Publication Date: September 19, 2016

Publisher: Entangled Teen

Description:

Use cash and keep moving.

After I ran away from home, these were the two rules that dictated my life. Scoring a job as a roadie fit perfectly for what I needed. Traveling, cash, and life out of the spotlight. But when my path collides with West, the lead singer of Bus Stop, I can’t seem to stay out of his spotlight—especially since we’ll be touring together for an entire year.

West is determined to break down my walls. He won’t give up. And little by little they come crumbling. But if he knew what lurked behind them, he wouldn’t be so eager to get rid of them.

The more time we spend together, the more the lines of our friendship become blurred. He makes me dream of things I never thought possible. But while our friendship has been evolving into a romance, my secrets have been closing in. And just when I’ve decided to reveal my past to West, I’m confronted by it. The cost of my freedom could ruin the life of the guy I love…

His hand stills. He doesn’t move. Neither do I, and neither one of us speaks. Then West shifts first, gently pushing me away, and rolls to a sitting position. He rubs his eyes and looks around and finally with a sigh, glances over his shoulder at me where I still lay on the blanket.

“It’s late,” he says, “and you’ve got to be up early for work.”

I nod, completely confused that he’s the one who pulled away.

He gets to his feet and holds out his hand. “Come on, I’ll walk you to your room.”

I let him pull me up, and together we fold the blanket. But as I come toward him with my ends of the blanket, he slides one arm around my back and holds me to him. “Hug me,” he whispers. “Please?”

His words liquefy my insides, and I don’t hesitate as I slip both arms around his waist and lay my face on his chest. With the blanket smooshed between us, I listen to his heartbeat as he pulls me in snug, resting his head on top of mine. Gently, he rocks me, humming a song I don’t recognize, but the tune buzzes through me, and I sink further into the embrace.

We stand this way, gently swaying, as he hums the whole song. I haven’t cried in many years. The last time I did I was in excruciating pain. So when the wetness pools in my eyes, I blink my lids, surprised, realizing they’re tears of happiness.

Exactly what tears should be.

Shadow of a Girl is a sweet and heartfelt novel about the power love can have to change your whole life. I don't normally read contemporary romance, but I'm so glad I gave this one a chance. The plot wasn't wholly original - it seems like a lot of books are revolving around a big musician guy falling for an ordinary girl. Which is exactly what this story is - but it's also so much more. Eve is a wonderful main character and her story broke my heart. She's strong, brave, and determined not to let her past ruin her life. The story is told from the first person point of view, with Eve as the narrator. I'm a huge fan of this writing style because I think it gives the reader a really personal connection with the narrator. That's exactly what happened with this book. Eve was incredibly realistic, from her fears and insecurities to her finally letting herself be happy and fall in love. I connected with her from  the very beginning of the story, and I loved watching her grow into the person she wanted to be. There's a lot of really hard situations that she has to face, but she has a great amount of inner strength that she doesn't even realize is there. Her character is very well rounded, as are the rest of the major characters in the book. The author did a fantastic job bringing these people to life in front of my eyes - it felt like I was right beside Eve throughout the whole novel. Or as if she was telling me about it herself. That's a huge part of why I love the first person point of view so much. I don't do spoilers in my reviews, so I can't really go into the plot much. It's a moving story that had my emotions on a roller coaster ride the entire time. I definitely recommend this book to fans of the genre or to readers looking for a realistic look at life and love.
