Nothing frightens Atticus Everheart more than monsters, thanks to his older brothers, who often threaten to feed him to the beastly creatures.
Fearing that’s what they will do if he doesn’t replace the book he accidentally
ruined, he takes a job tutoring a boy in his neighborhood.
Although nervous about the job, Atticus soon discovers there’s a lot more in
store for him than teaching. Never in a trillion years would he have imagined
he’d be hiding from monsters, working with ghosts, or searching for werewolves
and witches. He’s not brave, and he has no plans to change.
Until he’s forced to.

Meet the Main Characters
Let’s meet Atticus Everheart first, since his name is in the title.
There isn’t anything remarkable about Atticus. In fact, he’s about as ordinary as ordinary can get. He’s child number three out of five Everheart children, small for his age, and non-athletic. But Atticus is okay with this. In fact, being ordinary has never bothered him. He has his books (and sometimes his brothers’ special stash of books, but let’s keep that between us because his brothers hate when he goes in their things) to entertain him. Atticus is happy as long as there is no mention of monsters. He would rather brave endless tea parties with his little sister, Evie. Or listen to his other sister, Abigail, go on and on about the things for sale in the newspaper (a guilty pleasure of hers for as long as Atticus can remember) before facing anything that might go bump in the night. His fear of monsters is his brothers’ fault. They’ve threatened to feed him to the beastly creatures on more than one occasion.
Drago Dracul is the half-human, half-vampire grandson of Dracula. He’s as clever as they come, determined, and observant. Still, it’s hard to live up to your grandfather’s legacy when you are the grandson of the most infamous vampire of all times. The expectations that come along with being a vampire are tripled just for being from such a prestigious bloodline. This is all quite perplexing for our anti-hero, who has yet to compel anything bigger than a mouse. Truth be told, he isn’t even sure he compelled the mouse to leave the manor. And tricking a mouse into finding a new home is the least of his worries. His grandfather excepts him to be able to change forms. As if turning into a bat and flying is easy. These are the types of things Drago’s tutors are supposed to teach him. He’s worked with immortals, werewolves, witches, and even a mad scientist. The task has proven more than these supernatural beings could handle. And now—Drago shutters at the mere thought—he’s to be taught by a boy who is, to Drago’s horror, dreadfully ordinary and human.
A huge thanks to my host for having me on her blog. And thank you for stopping by.
C.L. Colyer found her love for writing in first grade when
her class was sent to the library and asked to find a book for their first book
report. While she doesn’t still have this book report, she’s very proud to say
she got an A on it. Her favorite thing about the book was that it had no words.
That’s right, not one! That gave her the freedom to interpret the pictures in
any way she wanted and write her own story.
This sparked her love for writing essays. It wasn’t until she
was an adult that she sat down and penned her first novel. This story has a
special place in her heart because it’s the story that helped her discover her
passion for writing. She has since written several books, many of which may
never see the light of day, but all of which helped her learn to combine her
passion for writing with her fascination with all things mythical. You’ll find
examples of this in her novels.
Her alter ego writes stories for teens and adults under
Cherie Colyer.
