Description:

BOOK ONE OF THE GUARDIANS TRILOGY
To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…

Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.

Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.

But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars…

I'll admit that this is the first book by this author that I've ever read. I know she's a huge bestselling author who has written tons of novels - mostly revolving around romance. I'm honestly not a huge romance fan - probably the main reason I never picked up one of her books. However, after reading the description of Stars of Fortune, I decided to give it a try - and I'm so glad that I did! It was immediately apparent that this author has a tremendous amount of talent and is an expert storyteller. I found myself drawn into the world she created within the first couple of pages. Every aspect of the book was incredibly well written with detailed descriptions and lots of vivid imagery - add in the complex characters and the truly original story line - and you end up with an amazing novel that had me eagerly reading as fast as I could to find out what was going to happen next.

I honestly loved every part of this novel. There's a lot of fantasy mixed in with contemporary fiction - from the beginning with the goddesses creating stars for their new queen and then jumping to current times when our main character - Sasha - begins to have strange dreams about people she's never met but feels like she knows and places she's never seen, but they feel natural to her. Sasha is a fantastic main character for the novel. She's an everyday woman - she prefers her small home in the quiet of the mountains where she can paint in peace away from other people. Sasha is smart, down to earth, intuitive, and determined - to name a few of her traits. I loved watching her character grow throughout the novel as she came into her own and began to accept her true self and her abilities as a seer. The other major characters in the book were also well written with distinct personalities and qualities. I really enjoyed getting to know each of them - who they are as people along with their role in this mystic quest to find the star. I hope we get to learn more about each of them in the next book, along with watching their relationships with one another change and grow as well.

The plot was captivating - it had me hooked from the first couple of paragraphs. Like I mentioned, there's a great blend of fantasy, mythology, and contemporary fiction along with action, adventure, romance, and some paranormal aspects as well. The author wove together all of these genres effortlessly - along with giving us fascinating characters and a plot that kept me reading as quickly as I could. It's very obvious that this is a seasoned author who has an immense talent for writing. I can't wait for the next installment to be released to see what will happen and what direction the story is going to take. I very highly recommend this book to fans of fantasy, paranormal, and romance - along with readers who enjoy contemporary fiction, mythology, and adventure!

Nora Roberts was born in Silver Spring, Maryland. She began writing when a blizzard in February 1979 kept her in her hilltop home with a three and six year old for nearly a week of canceled kindergarten and dwindling chocolate supplies.

During the now-famous blizzard, she pulled out a pencil and notebook and began to write a story for her own entertainment. From the first page, she knew it was what she was meant to do. Several manuscripts and rejections later, Irish Thoroughbred was published by Silhouette in 1981.

The Liar, published in April 2015 by Putnam, is her 214th book. She hit the NY Times Bestseller list in 1991. Every book since 1999 has made that list.

Recently The New Yorker called her “America’s favorite novelist."

In 1995, she began writing a police procedural series featuring Eve Dallas, a NY homicide cop, and set in the near future under the J.D. Robb pseudonym. Devoted in Death, out in September 2015, is the 41st entry in the series. (Author info and picture taken from Goodreads)
