Publisher’s Synopsis:

Bulwark- a wall or stockade that protects or sometimes hides the truth from the outside world. Bulwark, Georgia, isolated, hidden. Who knows what strange things can happen when the rest of the world can’t see you? JB Stratton is alone in the world, and all he has left are the memories of his beloved Ellie. Dirt poor JB and wealthy Ellie feel an instant connection that is as intense and primal as the blood red earth of their home. Unseen roots connect them, pulling them into an impossible relationship. Will the memories of past lives help or hinder the path of their love? Based on the original novella Bulwark, by Brit Lunden, The Knowing continues the story of a town isolated from the rest of the world where the impossible becomes plausible, and logic is determined by reality.

“The Knowing: A Bulwark Anthology: Volume 1 is a fast read that will certainly creep into your heart (filling it with both sadness and happiness) and leave you pondering the greater meaning of the story.” — The Children’s Book Review

The Knowing is the first anthology containing a novella from the Bulwark series. It tells the story of JB Straton and Ellie. You should definitely read the first book before this short story or you'll be confused about things and people that are referenced in the novella. Even though it was under 100 pages long, I thought this was a quick and fun read. I liked getting to know a little bit about JB and Ellie and their lives. The story is told from the third person point of view, which if you read my reviews, isn't one of my favorite writing styles. I always prefer the first person POV, and this novella was no exception. I think I would've connected to the characters a lot easier and quicker if it had been done in the first person. Even though I didn't wholly like the writing style, the rest of the story was well written with complex characters, a great setting, and an interesting plot line. I'd definitely recommend this book to fans of fantasy, paranormal, thriller, mystery, romance, and short stories.
