Anything But Pink is a cute and fun book that also teaches kids a wonderful and essential lesson. The main character, Zinnia, is pink but the rest of the people in her city are gold. She gets made fun of at school and it makes her feel bad about herself and she decides she wants to change her color to gold so she can look like everyone else. Along her journey, she meets three new friends who are all different from everyone else like she is. They each teach her an important lesson about not only accepting yourself but loving who you are and not letting other people make you feel bad about who you are or what you look like. The message is a necessary one, especially in today's society, and the story delivers it in a cute adventure. The illustrations were all full page with lots of vivid colors and went along perfectly with what was happening in the story. I think this is a fantastic book for kids of all ages to read - especially those who are too little to read themselves and enjoy being read to and for children who are learning to read by themselves.
