And if you can’t wait until September 20th for the release of THROUGH GLASS, the first book in her Imdalind series, KISS OF FIRE, is now available in eBook format for free at AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE and for the KOBO.

We love the cover, but what do you think?

COMING SEPTEMBER 20th, 2013

About THROUGH GLASS:

Everyone remembers the day the sky went black. They remember the screams as the blackness ate those who were out in the open, those who surrounded themselves by light, and those who made noise.

Everyone remembers the voice from the sky, the way food disappeared.

Everyone remembers the day the sky went black, and the sun was wiped from the sky.

At least that’s what I hope. I hope that there is an ‘everyone’ that will remember.

I hope that I am not alone.

Because I remember.

I remember, because it was the day I became alone.

It was the day the house went silent, and the birds stopped singing. It was the day when everyone disappeared, everyone except the boy, the only person I have seen in two years.

The boy I talk to through the glass.

Top 10 Favorite Books and Why

1. Angela’s Ashes – I found this book when I was in high school, I picked it up at a bookstore when on a church trip. I thought it looked good, but in some weird way, I saw my life mirrored in it. I have had a hard life growing up, and reading about another’s trials, and knowing that he made it through, and that I wasn’t alone was very big difference in my life.

2. Playing the Jack – Before e-readers I frequented a library about twice a week. I devoured books and I got to the point that I was just pulling books off of the shelf in the hopes that they were good. That was how I found this book. And I love it. It has been out of print for about twenty years, but I really believe that it deserves to see the light of day again. It was my first foray into historical fiction and probably put the idea of writing back into my mind.

3. Sideways Stories from Wayside School – This book was my first introduction into chapter books in second grade, at least the first book that I remember. I guess it made that much of an impact on me that it erased the memory of all previous chapter books. I love the humor and the craziness. I think this was the first time that I realized that I could get lost in a book. That feeling is so addicting.

4. MacBeth – I was in sixth grade and my school was putting on a Shakespearean festival, the play of choice was MacBeth – The Scottish Play – and I was determined to be cast as the lead. I memorized that monologue and climbed out a window to audition (I wasn’t allowed to audition) and snagged the lead. This may just seem like another bond with a show I had once performed; but it is so much more than that. This play was my first experience with Shakespeare. I think everyone remembers their first introduction to Shakespeare, be it good or bad. For me I remember how the words fell into my mind and stayed there, lingering to create worlds and images that I could only dream about. To me, Shakespeare was a magician.

5. Alice in Wonderland – When I was in third grade my teacher Ms. Flowers was in charge of the school play. And that year it was Alice in Wonderland. I was ecstatic. I devoured the book, twice, before auditions. Prepared a one line ‘monologue’ and was cast with the fifth graders as the Iris in the Flower garden. I read the book several times since then and when my first daughter was born I proudly named her Alice. I probably love Alice in Wonderland more for nostalgia sake. But I still love it.

6. Wizard of Oz – Everyone has a first book love, the book your parents read to you at night. This was mine.

7. Significance- Significance was my first introduction to indy publishing. My husband got me a Kindle for Christmas – he saved all year and so I was limited. If I remember the book was free or at .99 I bought it, and gobbled it up. I loved it, but what was more it put in the back of my head and when my sister dared me to publish Kiss of Fire, I knew what I was going to do.

8. The Sea of Tranquility – Not many recent reads are on this list – but this one definitely deserves to make it. It was so well written and well thought out. I think I read it twice, right in succession my desire to devour it was the high. I still recommend it to everyone.

9. I’m torn between something religious or a book that truly made my life better for number 10. I am not sure which one fits, so I will leave you with something I heard two nine year old discussing during a rehearsal in the late 90s. I’m not sure what book they were talking about but one small child said to the other “You should read it. That book changed my life.” I laughed at the time. But, even at ten books changed my life too.

My body called out in pain as I moved, each shift of weight sending pain through me. I ignored it all, my focus only on finding Ryland.
“Ryland!” I yelled out loudly. I was sure he was right there, sure he was going to answer me.
Strong arms encircled me, and for one fleeting moment I was sure it was Ryland. But the arms were wrong. They were leaner, stronger. I pushed away from Ilyan’s arms, screaming out as the pain from my aching body became too much.
“Joclyn! What’s wrong?” Ilyan’s yelled above my screams, his eyes as wide as mine in his panic at being awoken.
“Ryland!” I yelled out again, not giving Ilyan an answer. I continued to scream and yell for Ryland as I scrambled across the floor, my legs giving out a few steps in. I tumbled down to the ground as another wave of pain shot through my spine, crippling me.
“Joclyn!” Ilyan was at my side immediately, his hands moving to press against me.
“Don’t!” I yelled, pushing him away. I didn’t need his magic to calm or heal me. I didn’t need him. I needed Ryland. “I have to find Ryland!”
I clawed my way toward the window, desperate to get out, to see if I could sense him. To see if I could save him. He was in my dream, he remembered me in the dream. No, it wasn’t a dream, it was a Tȍuha. A shared consciousness. I still had a chance to save him.
“Ryland?” Ilyan said.
“Yes!” I yelled, continuing to claw my way toward the glass. “He was there. In the Tȍuha. I saw him, he... he remembered me... I can save him...” I reached the glass as my spine clenched again. I screamed as my body threw me to the ground, the pain incapacitating me.
Ilyan was there a moment later, his magic rushing into me in a wave of power. My body relaxed as the pain seeped away despite its attempt to possess me.
“He’s gone, Silnỳ. He’s gone,” Ilyan said.
“No! I saw him, in the Tȍuha. He remembered me. He...”
“It wasn’t a Tȍuha, Silnỳ...” Ilyan moved me toward him, my pain filled body unable to resist the unwanted contact.
“It was... I saw him.” I was becoming desperate. I needed him to understand. I was running out of time.
“No. Your necklace still lies in the bathroom and your magic... Silnỳ, your magic is not strong enough to connect with him without it.” I tried to push away from him, but it was useless. My body was too weak.
“I saw him, Ilyan... I saw him.” I needed to get to him, I needed to open the window and find him.
“It was a dream, Silnỳ. He’s gone.”
“No!” I sobbed, attempting to move away from Ilyan again, but he held me in place. “No, I saw him.”
“He’s gone.”
Slowly I gave in, the tears of my pain and my broken heart too much for me to fight. I cried into Ilyan’s bare chest, his hair falling around both of us as he cradled me. I leaned
into Ilyan as he began to sing. He sang the same song he had comforted me with the night he flew me away from Ryland.
The rough Czech words surrounded me as he sang over and over, soothing me back to sleep.

Kiss of Fire Blog Tour: Excerpt Giveaway

Kiss of Fire (Imdalind #1)
Author: Rebecca Ethington
Genre: YA Paranormal/Fantasy
Release Date: November 6, 2012

Description:

Joclyn Despain has a scar. In fact, it is almost like a brand on her skin. She doesn’t know why it appeared on her neck, but she doesn’t want anyone to see it, including her best friend Ryland, who knows everything else about her. The scar is the reason she hides herself behind baggy clothes, and won’t let the idea of kissing Ryland enter her mind, no matter how much she wants to.

The scar is the reason she is being hunted.

If only she knew that she was.

If only she had known that the cursed stone her estranged father sent for her 16th birthday would trigger a change in her. Now, she is being stalked by a tall blonde man, and is miraculously throwing her high school bully ten feet in the air.

Joclyn attempts to find some answers and the courage to follow her heart. When Ryland finds her scar; but he knows what it means, and who will kill her because of it.

I tore out of the car, leaving the engine on and the door open, to run up the stairs. With each step, the necklace bounced against my skin, its temperature steadily increasing. I reached the third-floor landing and stopped; the door to our apartment was wide open. I froze, and stared at the dark expanse of space beyond my apartment door.

Something in the back of my mind told me to turn around and leave, to just go to Ilyan. But I couldn’t. The fluttering panic in my heart pulled me forward. I could taste the danger on my
tongue; I could hear the voice of reason screaming at me to get away, but I could only think of my mother.
