Warriors of Wing and Flame is the second and final book in an enchanting young adult fantasy duology that fans of the genre and of the author are definitely going to love. I've read several of the author's other books - including the first book of this duology - and absolutely loved them. After finishing the first installment, I couldn't wait to see how Inara's and Zuhra's stories wrapped up. 

The main characters, Inara and Zuhra, continued to be incredibly realistic and easy for me to connect with. I was able to slip right back inside their world within the first couple of paragraphs and it was like I had never left. I loved watching them learn more about themselves, each other, and their lives in the crazy new mixed world they find themselves in. I really liked seeing their relationship with one another continue to grow and change. Of course, I loved watching each of their romantic relationships blossom throughout the book too. 

Another huge thing for me personally was the writing style. I almost always prefer the first person point of view when reading because I feel it lets the reader have a much deeper connection with the narrator than any other style. I was so glad when the author chose to write this in the first person but with the added bonus of dual narratives from Inara and Zuhra both. I absolutely adored getting to experience the story through each one of their perspectives and to see things through both of their eyes. It let me get a fuller, deeper look of everything that was happening and how the girls were feeling during it all. Having the book done in the first person was fantastic, but having it done from alternating viewpoints of Inara and Zuhra took it up a notch and made it incredible. I very highly recommend this book (and series) to fans of the author and readers who enjoy YA, fantasy, action, adventure, romance, and fairy tales.

Dark Breaks the Dawn is the enchanting first book in a wonderful YA fantasy retelling of Swan Lake. I'm not very familiar with Swan Lake, so I can't compare the two and see what exact similarities there might be. Even though I don't know the original story, it didn't effect my experience with this book at all. Just about every aspect of the novel was fantastic and incredibly well done. The only thing that personally bugged me a little bit was the writing style. The author chose to write the story from the third person point of view, which makes it feel a bit closed off from the characters (compared to first person - my top choice). I fully understand why the author chose this style of writing and it makes complete sense. There were multiple primary characters and the perspective of the story bounces around between them. If the book had been done in the first person POV, it would've been very confusing and would've taken away from the story itself. Even though I fully understand the reasoning, I still always prefer the first person. But this is solely my own opinion and not a reflection on the book itself.

All of the other elements were fantastic. The multiple primary characters were all rounded and complex. I enjoyed getting to know each one and watching them grow and change throughout the book. I really liked seeing their relationships with one another develop as well - especially that of Evelayn and Tanvir. Although there's a definite thread of  romance throughout the novel, it didn't take away from the main plot - which I really liked. It didn't overwhelm the story, instead it enhanced it for me. The setting was wonderful and easy to get lost in. The author uses rich imagery and detailed descriptions to bring every part of this world to life in front of our eyes. I loved learning everything about the different kingdoms, the magic, the political and social scenes, and so much more. Which brings us to the plot. It was fascinating and had me hooked from the very beginning. I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. Some of the aspects were predictable - the princess who has to step up and take over the kingdom, the romance involving the princess, the rival kingdoms and their war, etc. Even though these weren't completely original, I think the author did a great job weaving it all together to create a dazzling novel. I'll definitely be reading the second book and I'm excited to see where that one will take us. I highly recommend this one for fans of YA fantasy, paranormal, romance, retellings, and fairy tales.
