About the Author:

I started my obsession with reading at an early age, getting in trouble for sneaking BabySitter Club and Nancy Drew books into math class in elementary school. I would read any fiction book I could get my hands on. I knew it was an addiction when instead of grounding me from TV or music, my mom would take away my books as punishment (The Horror!). My love of all things paranormal was inspired by my good friend Laurie, who convinced me that books with vampires, witches, and all things shifter were amazing. After a little reluctance, I gave it a shot with the Sookie Stackhouse books, realized she was right, and the rest was history.
I grew up in Pittsburgh, graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with my degree in English, and taught 8th graders to love reading as much as I do for several years. I will always be a proud member of the Steelers Nation, but I couldn't take the cold and moved my frozen tush to Florida where I now live with my family and two cats. You will find me now with my trusty Kindle in hand and toes in the sand!

Review:

Awaken is the first book in the Patronus series, which follows the teenage heroine Lucy Donovan, as she dies and then wakes to find that she is now an immortal being known as a Patronus - a guardian of souls and spirits. As part of her new duties, Lucy must fight vampires and werewolves to retrieve the souls they have stolen. On top of everything, Lucy meets Max - another Patronus whose presence confuses and intrigues her.

This was a really fun and fast paced book that I couldn't put down. I really enjoyed the history and backstory of the Patroni and what they are called to do. I found it to be refreshing and original in the young adult genre. The characters are all well rounded and have unique personalities - especially Lucy. There is lots of action throughout the book along with tons of twists thrown in for good measure. The plot moved quickly and kept me on my toes, which I really liked. The setting and the different realms was really interesting. There were lots of threads started in the first book that I'm excited to follow up with in the next installment. Overall, this is a really well written novel that fans of young adult paranormal fiction will really love.

Review:

Avenge is the second book in the Patronus series, which continues to follow Lucy Donovan and her team - a group of immortal beings known as Patronus - guardians of souls and spirits. In this installment of the series, Lucy and her friends continue to hunt for the soul of someone Lucy loves dearly, all while kicking some serious vampire and werewolf butt. On top of all that, Lucy and Max's relationship deepens, and they must face some of the hardest trials they will ever endure.

Just like the first book in the series, I thought that this was a really fun and fast paced book, and I couldn't put it down. I loved reading more about the history and backstory of the Patroni, their realms, and their purposes. I found it to be just as refreshing and original as the first book. The characters all show growth throughout this novel - especially Lucy, as she deals with immeasurable pain, suffering, and must reach deep inside herself to overcome great obstacles. There continues to be lots of action throughout the book along with interesting twists to keep things moving. The plot was very engaging and kept me guessing, which I really liked. I really enjoyed the development of Max and Lucy's relationship. It was a bit mushy at times, but still incredibly romantic and I enjoyed reading about them. Overall, this is a great continuation to the series, and is a very well written story that readers will love.
