Gleanings is a collection of short stories written from the Scythe world the author created for the series. I definitely recommend reading at least one of the books, if not all of them, before reading this book. Otherwise you'll be completely confused and the stories won't hold the same weight or interest. The stories are from various times in the Scythe timeline, which I thought gave more depth to the world of the Scythes. There are origin stories for some characters from the series and some new characters are also introduced. I loved learning the backstories for the characters I already knew and I also loved getting to know the new characters. All of the stories were incredibly well written with great attention to detail and lots of vivid imagery that brought the characters and their world to life. I recommend this book to fans of the Arc of a Scythe series, as well as fans of YA science fiction, fantasy, dystopian fiction, and readers who enjoy short stories.
